If I had a problem like this I would take practical steps to sort it, not waste my time and money to get my face on Youtube.
Different strokes for different folks I guess. He's a NASA engineer, designing landing craft for space exploration. Not sure what your line of work is, but the lad seemed happy enough with his lot.

No doubt he is happy. I would be happy to put up with some glitter and the smell of a fart if I got 4 mobile phones as part of the deal.

They all hoyed it out the window/in the bin mate. Nee-one got anything apart from the glittery surprise and smell.
He's probably smart enough to realise that and leave a few dummy units around which spray liquid skunk faeces rather than glitter.

I assumed it to be a honeypot/sting operation where all of the info' gathered in the Cloud files would be handed over to the police.

Same here. I mostly realised when I saw his code flash up and thought 'Oh he us using the Arduino IDE, his custom board much be based around the ATMega chip.'
