An alternative protest

Start a crowdfunding effort to create a fund then appoint one supporter to go on a mission to speak to Short directly, man to man.

Give him a letter, from the supporters, to present to Short, or his office, and make sure the cameras are there.

Inform the press, the TV and any other media that our special envoy is on his way ..... it could be a one man Jarrow march.

If Short is in the US we could absolutely bombard the local media to gain attention ..... they love shit like that.

If he's in Scotland have an actual march where various people can join 'Braveheart', at various points, wearing Sunderland shirts through the ages.

We could have a series of people walking the 50 miles from Culloden, a famous battlefield of a bitter civil war, to Skibo Castle.

The 'villain' at Culloden was the Duke of Cumberland who was nicknamed 'The Butcher' and looks remarkably like Short .... if you really squint a bit.

Start a website where everyone can contribute and our plucky hero can send photos of him/herself waving his specially made flag at various landmarks.

Contact Sunderland supporters in the US or Scotland who'll take him into their home or simply hand over some bait/baccy/booze.

Have a donation page that goes directly to the specially procured credit card to help him on his way.

If people don't like the flag idea we can have an incredible red & white tracksuit made with a message for Short.

Two things could happen whereby our hero is met by Short who's image would be seen as far and wide as we can manage ....

.... or our lad is refused permission to speak to Short, or hand over the letter, which would see us brand him the coward he'd prove himself to be.

The main thing is that Short would know all about it.

No mass protest at the stadium, no disruption of the players on the pitch, no risk of being seen as yet another shouting rabble, etc etc etc.

I've written this as I'm watching Deeney score in the Watford match on a stream, on my laptop, and pretending to our lass that I know what's happening in Corrie

So I've not thought anything through properly, haven't checked my facts, edited my post and have no idea where Short might be.

I think it could become massive and make a dignified and powerful statement that wouldn't frighten off a prospective buyer ....

..... you might think it's shit but that's democracy

The Butcher ...

That there is where the plan fails.

I disagree mate.

If he refuses to see our envoy or accept the letter he looks a coward in front of the media.

And I don't believe we don't have someone, on here, capable of speaking to Short .... there are loads of people.

@Grumpy Old Man would be my choice .... confident, eloquent and sure of his facts.

The point is that whatever happens it gets people the mass publicity they keep claiming they want.

I could organise the whole thing, to Skibo, in a week and have it 'on the road' by the end of February .... guaranteed.

And here I was thinking you were my friend ;)

It will have to be in Scotland then because most of the knackers on here wouldn’t get a visa to get in to the States never mind get to see him in person there!!!

I'll ask again... what's the point? There is no buyer. Short tried to sell but couldn't. We're stuck with him and he's stuck with us. What will a protest achieve?

It wouldn't even matter if Short wasn't at Skibo .... there's something symbolic about ordinary people marching with flags and colours .... especially into Scotland.

No reason we couldn't get a few hundred people up there.

Sorry I thought I'd already covered that.

The point, imo, is partly to reinforce the dissatisfaction of the supporters and that they hold Short partly accountable.

It would be a dignified and totally harmless protest that wouldn't affect the team on the pitch.

Nor would it put any bad thoughts into the minds of potential buyers.

It would also make people believe they'd sent a message straight to the heart of the man they feel has ruined their club.

All this talk of protest needs to find a relief valve somewhere and this could be it.

No big aims or dreams of a revolution, just to put an end to accusations of apathy and watching the club die.

If people don't want it to happen that's their choice .... I think it could be a quick and direct message to Short, that's all.

Think the OP was being a bit facetious tbf.

Not one bit mate, totally serious.

If people backed it I'd get it organised and sorted by the end of the month.

I'd have media coverage, ex-players and 'celebrity supporters' involved and make sure all mediums such as this board, RR, RAWA, etc were approached.

I'd be the first to donate and start it off at £100 ..... it would top £5000 without any problem.

That's more than enough to pay for a march to Skibo etc.

Fair play. Well something has to give somewhere mate, not sure what and when like. Seriously worried about where all this will end.

Most dejected I've been at a home game in a long time at the weekend just gone

America is a big place. We need to know exactly where short is. We can't have a load of SAFC supporters roaming around the USA.

It would be a few quid and a 2/3 day march through some beautiful Scottish countryside.

Like you say something has to give and all those people demanding protest could join in .... even if only for half a day.

Short partly accountable.
Short already admitted it's his fault we're in this mess. He acknowledges that throwing all that money at that shite team was a very bad move.

If he was refusing to sell or being a kernt I'd be totally on board, but he isn't. I just don't see any point telling him something he already knows.

Like I said mate I was typing while watching the match and not really concentrating.

America was a daft idea but everyone knows about Skibo.

The clientele there would shit their pants if they knew hundreds of Sunderland people were marching on the place.

Short would certainly know and meeting us would be his choice ..... it would make a point whether he's there or not.

Fair enough but you didn't respond to my other comments ..... only this one.

Sorry mate, what other comments need addressing?

At the end of the day, He knows he fucked up, we know he fucked up, and we all want to part ways. Problem is... no fucker wants to buy us, and tbh I can't blame them.

Also, what kind of message does a protest send to potential buyers?
