American Football in Barnes Park

Went past Barnes Park today and there was a full game of American Football going on. Lads in the full gear, shoulder pads, helmets, the lot.

First time I’ve seen that in Sunderland. Looked a bit surreal like

There was a group of lads trying to get a team going in Sunderland mid/late 80's time..there was a few meetings about it in the Barnes and a few practices up the all weather at Silksworth..fkn ridiculous really..the lads who played defence just wanted to clatter people and they were always arguing about the name and colours to play in.

Washington Wildcats. They only lasted one season but it was a great team to play for.
