Just watched the Madrid v Arsenal game and it was American commentary. It was so much more enjoyable. 2 Americans, really serious about the match, no banter, no boring stats being churned out, they weren’t constantly criticising the players or saying what they should have done better. It was commentated as though they recognised the viewer understood the game of football.

Indeed... I like it but at the same time it annoys me that they are good at it.

This! I have to turn the volume off in some matches. The viewer has eyes and a brain. Why the need for someone to tell you that X has passed the ball to Y. Then pontificate throughout the game about the favourite clubs. Think of the money saved if the likes of SKY etc had minimal presentation at the beginning then just crowd noise.
 
Peter Drury is the worst right now, which is a shame as he used to very good in the Football Italia days. He's suffered from the media pressure to dramatize every single drop and fit atleast ten pre-match metaphor's about how this is the biggest game since the last game played on Sky two hours ago. Constant pointless stats about the last time the ball-boy threw the ball to an Arsenal player in 1936 they went onto win via deflected goal in the 78th minute. No one cares Peter, just commentate on the match.

..oh, and you don't need to scream a players name every time a player has a shot, as if they've just scored a 40-yard wonder goal.

I haven’t got Sky so don’t know the current offerings but I know they had that “fan zone” where a fan from each club commentated and that was annoying as owt

Surely they should also have zero commentary and minimal commentary as options

I can't remember Peter Drury on Football Italia, wasn't that Peter Brackley? Unless he came later?
