Very good post. If you look at our history over the past forty years or so, we flit between the top two divisions. Facilities-wise, we are a Premier League club. Playing squad-wise we are a Championship squad. Ambition in the transfer market this year suggests we are hoping to — at best — maybe sneak into the play-offs.

We have spent so long out of the PL these past few seasons that we have missed out on so much revenue. This means we are light years behind some of the clubs in that league in terms of playing squad quality and is one of the reasons we’ve let the stadium and other areas of the club decline — we’ve had to cut costs as we’ve missed out on probably half a billion quid these past few years.

I’m not a pessimist, I’m a realist. It would take us years to establish ourselves in the PL again, unless — like say a Brentford — we had an outstanding manager and a unique style of playing that helped us outperform our playing squad. Realistically, if we somehow got promoted, we’d likely get relegated in the first season. If we avoided that, there’s a slightly better chance we’d stay up the following year, but relegation would still be likely.

All I want at this moment in time is an ambition — a true ambition — to try to get in the top two of this league, with the lottery of the playoffs secondary. If owners aren’t aligned with that, then they’re daft. We need PL revenue to properly sustain a club of this size, with these facilities.

Im as frustrsted as anyone (my previous posts say so) with how last pre season went. Sign young foreigner after foreigner and as club we were arrogant in the approach and it backfired massively.

This pre season feels different by how we play compared to last season, the signings so far and the one on the horizon.

Its as if some posters just ignore half the stuff you post just to continue an argument!

I understand what you’re saying. We should get at least four seasons out of a 30-year-old, with a decent injury record and no major career injuries, though.

Great post. Agree 100%. We need to win the promotion lottery to have any chance of building for the future imo.
 
Every window now we go through the same routine. Blatant deficiencies in the squad, every man and his dog knows what they are, KLD and Speakman put out some PR/spin, then ultimately don’t address the issues and keep KLDs money in the bank.

It amazes me that no matter how many times this routine plays out, some people still try to convince themselves that there’s plenty to be optimistic about. These people are complete chancers and charlatans, and KLD has no intention of making any meaningful investment to take the club forward. The club is being used to run a punt/experiment, in the hope that one day we may fluke a cheap promotion and KLD/Sartori can line their pockets.

They’ll almost certainly sign a forward. The laws of averages say that if we wait long enough, they’ll probably, eventually, even do it by accident. But for us to be here - four days from the opening game in a fourth window crying out for the same things - is frankly a disgrace.

No wonder their preferred managerial candidates all laughed them out of the room.

Great post mate. Could be some truth in that. My lad is 16 and he doesn't 'get' how big we really are as he has mainly seen us in championship and league 1. I keep saying we are massive. So, could be alot of truth in your post mate. I just think to put it simply the owner doesn't realise how big a club we are and the potential and the 'model' is a myth to me mate...it just means doing it on the cheap but say it's a 'model'.

Is it? So you’re saying people who queued for a shirt or praised the club for something are happy about the striker situation and are delighted with everything at the moment?

Aye I reckon that might be it as well mate. Also probably explains why some people are far angrier / uspet about the way things are than others too.
