Alexandre Mendy (transfer rumour)

Spot on. He replaced Michael Bridges as a late substitute against Nottingham Forest in a 1-1 draw on 8th November 1997 (a match in which Leo Hjelde's father, Jon Olav, equalised for the visitors). Quinn started the next game away to Portsmouth and scored in a 4-1 victory and went on to strike up that wonderful partnership with Kevin Phillips. Happy days

I’d agree that Browne is exactly the sort of experience we were crying out for last season. Poveda looks more of a squad player unless he suddenly manages to find a run of injury free games that has eluded him for the last four seasons.

Still lots to do in the window though and with three and a half weeks left the time for excuses is fast running out.

Poveda is a talented winger who can easily challenge for 1st team spot. Not a bad option to have.

Assuming Mendy signs then we're in a decent positions going into last few weeks of the window to cherry pick 1 or 2 more signings for key areas. Ofcourse everyone wants the perfect squad now or at beginning of the window but thats not how it has ever worked.

I honestly think a proper coach, The addition of Browne and then when we get a CF over the line the team will be transformational.

Last season was shit but we were basically in free fall for months whereby the whole spark had gone and Beale / Dodds couldnt get it back, That ended with us languishing bottom end of the table on a horrific run. I dont actually think its a true representation of this team and what it can be.

Put it this way theres not many players in this league I would swap for Patterson, Hume, Ballard, Cirkin, Neil or Clarke. I think Brownie looks ideal from what I have seen so far. Combine the above with a proper CF and we still have a lot of talent in the likes of Roberts, Jobe, Poveda, Rigg, Ekwah, Mundle, Alese etc

Theres deffo work to be done but I dont think we are miles away.

The exact same thing was said last year, anyone showing concern was treat with this shit, threads made “pointing and laughing” when we “signed what was needed” remind me how that turned out will ya?

It’s pathetic man, people are justified in there concerns.

I 100% agree with you, our squad is talented, our first choice 11 will be competitive in every game. We are missing an obvious position which will do so much for the players around them if we can fix it.

Other than appointing a seemingly competent head coach we haven’t improved anywhere.
Browne is Evan’s replacement
Poveda, who knows…
The goalies, like for like.
No assistant coaches and unbelievably going into the season start with no new strikers.
Utter incompetence for me, we are going to miss out on points because of sheer inability to attract a goal scoring striker or two!

Are you pissed?

Im fully aware of what happened last summer etc etc and criticised it BUT im also able to see that signing browne and poveda and about to sign Mendy plus the current talent in the squad plus a new gaffer playing footy to suit our players that things can turn in our favour if we continue to sign experienced and hopefully quality players.

Our squad doesnt require alot of adjustments it just requires smart ones ajd so far we are heading in the right directions albeit 12 months later than we should have.

Cant change the past so no point crying over it. We are in an excellent position and can challenge with the right additions.

Can't be changing tunes on 1 game.

If we win 4-0 with 2 each for Mayenda and Rusyn we will still need another forward. If we lose 4-0 it doesn't mean the squad is shit and RLB needs to go.
