I honestly wouldn’t mind if Clarke was sold as long as money reinvested into other areas in team. Mundle and Rusyn both prefer to play on the left and then you’ve got young Watson who will need some minutes, someone is going to have to go.

Even though it feels inevitable, I'll be gutted to lose him. He is our best player by far and he's great to watch.

My fear with Clarke is, nothing is close with him atm because we are standing firm with our valuation.

So my fear is someone will panic buy him at the eleventh hour leaving us no time to replace him.

I don't think we'd replace him even if he goes tomorrow to be honest. Mundle and Rusyn would probably share the responsibility. Jury is out on both of them, but they have to play at some point.

My hope is that us standing firm just means he wont go. A few clubs linked have already signed someone else for LW.

Of course we are no further forward. We haven't signed a striker that we need. The way these charlatans operate it wouldn't surprise me if they had offered a figure so below the valuation of the selling club the deal was never going to happen. But the club can say we tried to buy him and put an offer in but we couldn't get the deal over the line and all the happy clappers defend them. Imagine if a club tried to buy Clarke for £8 million and we didn't sell then that club can at least say we tried to sign him so don't blame the club. By all accounts we have offered less than a £1 million for someone that the selling club value at £4 million.

I would say £4m is too much for a French 2nd division striker in his 30s. I sincerely hope we offer nowhere near that for him.

I'll assume negotiations are ongoing. One thing I like about Speakman is that he seems good in a staring contest, that makes a pleasant change for us.

Yep £2m would be the most and even that is a stretch, but still if we have been at this impasse since June we should be looking elsewhere
