Alex Neil -Sunderland legend in the making.

Brilliant manager for us so far and definitely our best manager since BSA.

He is tactically aware and his formations and attention to detail is massive. He has got a togetherness in the squad and with the right backing he'll get us back to the greed league within a couple of years.

A great fit for SAFC.

Yeah but how outstanding was he at Norwich or Preston ? He’s doing great long may it continue but his spells at those two clubs suggest it might not. Let’s not get carried away.
I think those experiences were part of his learning process as a comparatively young manager and have made him what he is today. We are hopefully reaping the benefits and have someone very capable on our hands, who, if he’s backed by the owners and not enticed elsewhere will take us to much greater things in he future.

My only gripe with him tactics wise is bringing everyone back at set pieces mainly corners

if we leave even say gooch up front that means the opponents have to leave some one back to mark him

so when Patterson gets the ball he can launch to who ever is up feild & we can get away on the counter

too many times we’ve found ourselves under pressure having everyone back it didn’t work under McCarthy

apart from that he’s doing superb if only the board would back him in getting the players he wanted

Agree he is a legend in the making. The right fit for us in every way. The fact everyone on here agrees shows he must be doing something right :D

The fact he’s winning games for us is more than good enough for me. I have one request of the manager and one request only. Only one thing matters to me in football. The one thing that achieves everything else in football. I don’t care what else he does. And this one thing he’s able to do. Wether he does it well or not is neither here nor there to me. But he’s actually doing it and doing it in the Championship which speaks volumes for the quality of the man. No manager who is less than exceptional is able to win games in this tough league.

Very good championship manager can’t believe people were crying over Keane not coming back
There’s nothing at all to suggest he can’t manage successfully in the Premier League and possibly, towards the top of the premier league.

Incredibly high standards, attention to details / tactical awareness, and clearly has an ability to create an intense, winning team spirit. Without getting too carried away I don’t see too many weaknesses. And he’s only about 45.

Considering every player on the pitch including the substitutes except Simms (not here) and O'Nien (injured) were in the Lee Johnson squad* that was pumped 6-0 by Bolton in January shows us just how far he has brought us in that time.

*Patterson and Hume were unused substitutes

We looked like we wouldn't make the league one playoffs and we are in the championship playoff positions right now (early days but its still on merit)
Am I reading this wrongly or is it a Whoosh?
Do you mean the team yesterday?

I thought you weren't too optimistic of our chances?

The matchday squad that got pumped by Bolton is almost identical to the squad vs Stoke.
That’s amazing ! It seems so long ago now.

There are many many things wrapped up in that fact, about the players, managers, transfer window etc
would take a bit of time to analyse it all and write a thesis on it… but AN comes out with huge credit!!

He does prefix his answers to questions with the word "Listen..." rather a lot though. I noticed that he even seems to have got Batth doing it in his interview yesterday.

I am very surprised that others don't appear to be as concerned about this as I am as it could very well spread to the rest of the team.

It’s quite alpha and assertive, not apologetic, so I don’t mind it.

I prefer any answer prefix than “So”, which is thankfully going out of fashion a little.

Absolutely. The mentality switch is incredible.
