You can tell from social media, especially twitter that 50% of the fans - and more - dont want Neil. As soon as Sunderland dont win it'll kick off.

Norwich city and PNE arent Sunderland. the expectations here are enormous and he'll struggle to cope. He must think all of his birthdays have come at once. I'll give him 12 months or less. He will be a dead man walking if we dont get promotion this season.
Gravy.

I think Neil is better than LJ. Not sure we could expect much more with a mid season appointment in league one. He's got 15 games to get us top 6 and get a system going for the playoffs.

He’s had 5 seasons in the Champsionship, finished 3rd once and outside of the play offs 4 times, and has been sacked twice.

Statistically he’s more likely to not get us promoted. Which was my original point, he’s 100 miles away from a guaranteed promotion candidate.

If we done go up then we start all over again with a hunt for a manager, yet again.

It’s a standard procedure with most clubs. We can’t afford to afford to pay 15 months wages in one pay off.
Fair enough mate, must admit I'd never thought of it in those terms but why should it be any different to the dozen or so mercenary players whose wages we've been paying years after they buggered off?

Far too simplistic view, he was at Preston for 4 years who had no money and were never going to reach the top 6.

It's like calling Sean dyche for only qualifying for Europe at Burnley once. I'm not saying he's a fantastic appointment, but he's a damn sight better than mccann.

That's not how football works marra.

Who would be a 'guaranteed promotion candidate', or in, say, a 50 mile radius of one?

Can someone please just reiterate again that Preston North end is not Sunderland AFC. what he did there is of no relevance whatsoever to what he is about to walk into.

As we know if we have 10 minutes of poor football the manager and players are hounded. will he cope with this? Lose 1 game and this board for example will go up in flames.

He is totally untested at a big club. a complete novice.
Absolute horse shite.

Aye. I remember hearing a lot about what Grayson had done at Preston as well.

Imagine thinking that Neil is a coup for Sunderland. Have our standards really sunk that low? I'm afraid that the smileys dont add to your case marra.

Be interesting to ask him the first question of - "alex how does it feel like to be managing one of England's biggest clubs and with an average attendance of 30000 in league 1"

"Dunno, never managed a club with 30000 fans never mind 30000 average". He is on hiding to nothing and is about to find out what pressure is at a football club. He will either go like the others and sink - or he might just swim - if the fawning on here over him is justified.
Awwwwh man. You shoulda chosen a less obvious name.
Ive not seen any fawning ower Neil. Fawning wad be saying he’d be the choice ower the acknowledged masters of the modern game like Pep, Klopp, Tuchal, Conte etc. Instead a few have said he was their choice out of the publicised candidates until Keane came along and now that Keanes gone hes their choice from the publicised candidates still.

Absolutely spot on. Everything is so black and white on here (no pun), no context whatsoever.

You think he’d be sacked if we don’t go up this season?!

Play offs would be a great achievement right now. I don’t think anyone gets the sack for missing out in the play offs / suppose it depends how you fail maybe.

Promotion a bonus if it happens this season. He gets a full crack at it with a transfer window in the summer. Then judge him.
