Most of our fans know fuck-all and need to sit back. I'll trust the management on this one rather than the soppy, nostalgia-addled middle-aged baldies on this one. They'll have done their due process and if they believe that Neil is the man for the jerb, then I'll be behind him.

Preston fan in peace.

Alex Neil would be a great appointment for you. He was probably one of the most tactially astute managers in the league, he would often change systems pre and mid game in order to combat the other teams strength. We was one of the best pressing teams in league under him.
He developed our young players and improved them into much better players. Ultimately he was let down from the owner, our top goal scorer sold in January when we went on to finish 1 point outside of the players. He got us competing with one of the smallest budgets in the league. If he had been backed properly then he’d still be with us and we’d be doing a lot better.

Looking forward to Neil turning us down.

Great, he sounds too good for us.

The issue isn't the process identifying Neil as the best candidate. The issue is the club allowing the Keane story to gather this much momentum without making any effort whatsoever to halt it. If Neil is appointed his job is now much, much harder than it ever needed to me.

Before Keane was thought about, looked at out of work managers who would fit the remit and he stood out tbh......could have been a 2 day turnaround and had him over a week ago - fair enough weve hung our hat on Keane and its fell down. Get him in and move on.....this season could still end in success no matter what has been said since Bolton

So much for data led appointments etc.
Thought it would be a left field appointment sort of like Ipswich but it's the old down trodden route of the managerial yellow brick road littered with has beens, never has beens and never will bes.
Speakman, you are full of shit

Very interesting. Some on this thread are peddling the line that PNE and Norwich fans didn’t rate him but I’ve yet to find one. So good to have first-hand thoughts from a fan.

This is exactly what some Norwich pals have said too. His in-game management is brilliant. Very switched on tactically.

Preston fan on Twitter. Theres more tweets, but they're all positive.

@tom_coulston: @RokerReport Neil for 90% of his time at North End did a fantastic job. He was let down by the board ultimately who sold key players without adequately replacing them. He had us competing for play offs in 3 of his 4 seasons on a bottom 6 budget. Tactically spot on and a big coup for you IMO
And that’s where a problem might persist while all of the present people upstairs remain at SAFC.

I’d be happy with him and, had he been the choice last week without the mess of the last 10 days or so, very happy.

Unfortunately it seems like it’s going to be McCann, judging off Footy Insider…

Thanks for coming on marra-other people who know Neil like you and others seem generally very positive about him .
If it is him I hope you are right -we need a bit of positivity to lift the place
Good luck
