The fact he's not been selected for ODI squad is an utter joke.

For me he should be given a chance in the test side, would like to see a sehwag, gayle, hayden type at the top for us alongside cook.

Would take pressure off him if the other guy can twat the shine of the ball.

Typical England not picking up for the ODIs.Thats top going although still not convinced he's a test player to be honest.
Should be nailed on for India ODI series though.

I think he can play test, he is the type of player who would get better in that arena, like Stokes, wasted in county games

167 not out and counting

Stokes is certainly a test match cricketer.Hales is a long way off at the minute. It's only a month or so ago Notts loaned him out as he couldn't get in their championship side. It's certainly encouraging he transferring his one day form into the longer format but needs more than a handful of first class knocks to start knocking on the test match door.

Hmm disagree, some people have that special something and need to be thrown in. He is taking 1st division bowlers to the cleaners at the minute. If he was Australian, he would be there or there a bouts in their team, different cultures ain't it.

Know what your saying as I'm kind of arguing with myself really because I'm having a pop at our selectors for being too conservative in not picking Hales for one day stuff and butler for test squad. However the Aussies haven't put Finch in the test match arena yet and I think that's were we are currently at with Hales to be honest.

By the same token they put in Warner, only a matter of time before Maxwell or Finch go in, comparison is valid, but he will be in there thoughts, Hales can't even get in our ODI team, staggering!

They don't need to as they already have a hitter in warner that opens. And even rogers can score rather quickly and did so against England.

It's an absolute disgrace he's not in one day team. We are so far behind the best sides in our approach to limited overs games it's frightening.

Agree with Finch, but Maxwell not a test match player

Disagree, look at his shield cricket record from last year, scored some remarkable big hundreds, a few in a row, will be in the team when they tour Asia IMO, perfect at 6 as a second spinner option too.

Maxwell just doesn't convince me at all.Think he's been a lucky boy to make the money he's made in his career so far.

Hell of a player like IMO, he was brilliant in the sheffield shield towards the end of the year, Darren Lehman can sort him out

Moores hasn't a clue what to do with the likes of Hales and Buttler

There is that. But there seems to be an overall England mentality to prefer those with SR of 40-50, that will stay in rather than get on top of an attack.

You may be better informed than me on maxwell I'm just going on what I've seen to be honest.
I'm really not sure what moores has got a clue on!

Don't know about been lucky earned his money in the IPL with some unbelievable hitting there, but think that's the point suits him better than test cricket IMO,big step up.

Yeah and have been for years and years, going back to think 1996 when Sri Lanka totally murdered us in the World Cup quarter final with their forward thinking in the first 15 overs.

Cook should be no wear near one day team

By lucky I meant that he's come into game at perfect time.15 year ago a Glenn maxwell probably wouldn't have been heard of.
Yes Sri Lanka showed the way almost 20 year ago and we've just stuttered along to the point we've almost stopped now.How cook is in the side is ridiculous.
Mike selvey made a really good point on the cricket writers this morning when he said that cooks test match batting has gone downhill since he came back into one day side.Balls he'd normally leave he has to play at in one day game and he's started to get caught between two stools in test matches. Could be something in that.

Should be nailed on for India ODI series though.

Not picked cos Moore's treated the SL ODIs as warm up games for the test series.
