In praise of the man for a change

Perth brings up 100 tests, of which 98 in a row. For context

He will be the youngest man to 100 tests
The youngest man to 7,000 test runs
A handful of men have broken his "streak", and border apart he should go past them
Will become England's highest ever run scorer
Will cost Carty money

Legend

Shite, negative, uninspiring, naive, idiotic, moronic, walking wicket who should be dropped.

Lucky to be on the tour at all after winning the Ashes in the summer, the signs were there........

TBF a lot of that is down to the sheer number of tests we play now.

Would be nice to see him return to form soon.

Top 5 English batsmen

Negative and uninspiring yes. The rest you made up.

Second sentence was me being a facitous over the 'signs were there' comment, but the rest are all on this forum. Not all from you like. ;)

I don't know what it is about this country. We have world class talent in Cook, someone who is in the process of breaking all the records there is for his discipline, but as soon as he drops his level even slightly the knives come out. Mental really.

His batting and captaincy were under the spotlight when we were winning. It's nowhere near the level of knee jerk you suggest.

wally hammond tops the lot for me. mainly for his name but still...

Boycott for me. Just because I saw him face some unbelievable bowlers and yet he was still the most stubborn bastard around, wouldn't change bis game and was still successful.

KP next, yeah yeah he gives his wicket away, yes he's South African but technically, he's the best I've ever seen for England. Then Cook. Actually said in the New Zealand (I think) series early last year that now, the away Ashes series should be the time to be judged properly. 4/10 so far.

I think he "bottled" the 74/5 tour down under mate.

Bumble got the Gig in his place and Thommo broke his Box!

Not sure how old you are Fish so you may not remember this but Boycott refused to go because he was refused the captaincy iirc. Hardly "bottled it." Replaced by a near 40 year old in Luckhurst.

That was also the series that Thommo really showed what he was about. If Mike Denness had got his way, Boycott and John Snow would have gone on tour and that series (1-4) could have been very different.

Should be dropped as captain and left to concentrate on his batting.
