Aguero is great to watch, but Shearer's spell at Blackburn still shades Aguero at City.
If I take my sky blue specs off, I have to admit Shearer's record is better. Aguero and Henry are probably the closest two behind him in goals per games.
We can all wax lyrical about players like Aguero, and especially Henry for some of their skill, but Shearer's job was to score goals, however ugly. In that regard, he's yet to be matched.
Obviously Sunderland fans won't be his biggest admirers, but generally speaking he was fairly inoffensive as a personality (he could put it about in the pitch though) - which would have made him popular even abroad. I think he would have scored at any of the elite European clubs too. That said, you never know how being away from home affects your performance (stop muttering about Gabby Logan
