Alan Shearer.

Whats more interesting to me is how much better he would have been if his formative years were spent under the shrewd tutelage of Eddie Howe instead of Ian Branfoot. I think he would have developed into a lot more than just a typical english number 9, and could have gone on to be one of the greats in the history of football if he had recieved a proper education off Eddie . Lets see how Callum Wilson ends up, I have very high hopes for him under Howe, and can see him becoming as good as Shearer at least.

How much would he be worth in the current market? Take the timeline comparison to be from when he left Blackburn after winning the league.
Would he remain in the Premier League, which he seemed well suited to, or this time around is there a possibility he'd go to a top price overseas?
What the feck goes on in your head ? Why do you post such shyte ? Go and get that head of yours examined you absolute numpty.

Great post. It made me chuckle. If you can spread a little happiness then your day has not been wasted.
Did you have a value in mind for Shearer?

I don't mind anyone coming on here to get a wind up but coming on here and glorifying the scum's players to get a bite clearly shows you are scraping the barrell. You should just give up, have another sabbatical or get yersel certified, unless you are a mag of course.

City would happily fork out £100M for him.

He'd probably score 30+ a season

I wouldn't say to get a bite.
He was once the world's biggest transfer. His style was very much Premier/English style though. Recently really big signings have gone to huge european clubs. I wondered if he'd still be the most expensive or would the style he played with have a ceiling value.
Personally i'd probably take him over Bale but would european clubs think the same, i don't know.
This thread is as much to do with a player's style than the individual, although i believe that Shearer was the best example.

Anyway, don't let this thread spoil your day. There's one on the England Band if music is more your thing!!:)

Doctor, Doctor, please..........

I'd say he'd be going for 70m+
Barca these days don't seem to go for a Shearer type striker, but I could see him playing at Bayern (but Bayern wouldn't pay such a fee).
I could see Chelsea fancying an aggressive forward.

It's all pipe dreaming of course, but he was never going to be a 'beautiful' striker on the way that Henry, or at a push Aguero are. He was more of a bully like Drogba. We don't see many of those strikers at the moment, but I'm sure they'll make a comeback.

Good post. That's what got me thinking about it. Statistically he has to be up there with the very highest fees. However, there's just something telling me that market forces (supply/demand) and marketability(Beckham brand etc) would hold him back ever so slightly.

Man U wouldn't want him as they have Rooney
Chelsea wouldn't want him because they have Costa
City have Aguero

You're probably talking the likes of Liverpool/Spurs after him these days so the fee would be in the 20 to 30 mill region

Hope this helps

He'd be a better goalscorer than all three of those. Comfortably so as well.

The most similar player out of the three is Diego Costa and he's nowhere near as good as Shearer was.

With or without wanker's hat?

All of them are better footballers though. Comfortably so. The top clubs expect more than goals and elbows these days. He'd still play for really good teams though; spurs etc.

Only Aguero is definitely a better footballer than Shearer in his Blackburn and first Newcastle season prime. Rooney is debatable (he currently isn't) and Costa certainly isn't.

Rooney was a better footballer than Shearer. Agree on Costa.

Shearer was an outstanding all round forward player. He also spent a lot of time bombing down the wing and putting in crosses, as well as being able to score from anywhere.

Costa looks a load of shite to me.
