I think the PL money completely changes the game. Prior to that we took punts on foreign youngsters and nomadics nobody wanted. For every Jack Clarke there was a Timothee Pembele or Jewison Benette. It's not an easy game to play, but our model was ultimately a successful one.

You could see that most of the lads we signed had something, but the ones that didn’t make it, you could also see why. Often injuries.

Jewi is a good example. You could see why he’s worth a punt, but also why it’s a punt, pretty much instantly.

Better than just loading up on L1 shite like Max Power.

What I could never understand with Jewi is that when he was out of the team he never played for the 21s. Surely he would have been well served playing every week at that level, learning the language and forcing his way into the first team picture.

In fairness, we'd never have been able to take a chance on Pembele had he not done his ACL. Never really seemed to recover from that.

He played for the 21’s tonnes mate

I used to watch all the games back in the day on the highlights thing and I thought he’d played a lot - thanks for this
Off tranfrMkt so not guaranteed to be accurate but usually is. I was surprised he hadn’t played more U21 and that he’d made so many senior appearances to be honest.

It's all history now, could have still been there if not for a couple of key moments. Fact is our approach has changed, largely due to prem money but we're risking less in terns of reliability.

19 U21 appearances. Surprised to see 21 first team appearances albeit mostly very short.
Jewi played a few games at lb. Presumably trying to teach him the defensive side of the game as needed in England.
I seem to remember he was praised enough for effort but presumably did not develop enough defensive awareness to survive here.

Get him on loan to the national legaue for the remainder of the season and get some men’s football under his belt ahead of pre season in the summer
