Quite an achievement for a leg spinner to take 6 wickets on the opening day of the County Championship.

the key will be whether he can take wickets when the tracks are damp
Mushy took 100 wickets a year in county cricket and was deemed surplus to requirements at international level for a largue chunk of his career. The reason being he took wickets on all surfaces and not just tracks that had baked under the sun for a few weeks.
Not knocking the lad but there really isnt any decent leggie test cricket bar Tahir because its such a hard art to master so lets not build him up.
In addition he has taken wickets against the whipping boys of div 1 who are 16-1 on to get relegated (I believe)
The only decent leg spinner in test cricket is one who hasn't even played test cricket? Not knocking the lad but there really isnt any decent leggie test cricket bar Tahir because its such a hard art to master so lets not build him up.

Looks like he's progressing nicely. I can't see him getting in the test squad this summer as Swann will be a regular but he should definitely be in the ODI/T20 set up. Although if his batting continues to progress could he be the genuine all rounder at number 7 we've been waiting for since Flintoff retired.

Understand what you are saying but he was the leading wicket taking spinner in Div 1 last season so signs of consistency there already.
Not really. Broad had never batted higher than 7 for Leics/Notts but plenty of people have been championing him for that number 7 spot in the test side.if he wants to bat at 7 in the test side, he should be batting higher than 7 for yorkshire

He has a first class average of 36 and there's still plenty of time for him to improve on that as well. Probably needs another season of county cricket but from what I've seen he's just about there as far as test call up is concerned.
I would say ten Doeschate is more the exception than the rule for number 7's. There'll not be many more who average 50 in that position.first class average of 36 doesnt mean much when you come in at 7
Ten Doescahte comes in at 7 for Essex and averages about 50

what competition did he have?
Kaneria played half a dozen games
Mushy has gone
Tahir missed a handful of games due to IPL and other committments
Durham got no decent spinner
Keedy is 36 so imagine he missed a fair few games
Not knocking him but put into perspective
English batsman by and large dont play leggies v well as they dont see many in the english game
shame shane warne didnt play in county cricket!
wasnt he leading wicket taker in the comp last year?
Warne hasnt played county cricket for 4 years![]()
obviously i meant rashid not warne you cretin
and most of, if not all of the leggies in world cricket have played county cricket in the last few years
sorry I should have realised when you said Warne you meant Rashid....easy mistake to make
