If you serve your sentence, and conform to any license restrictions imposed on your release, I think anyone should be able to pick up the pieces of their life and move on. Would people prefer ex offenders to remain unemployed and sponge off the state, or find employment and contribute to society through taxes etc.

Whilst I believe that once your sentence is served you should be able to return to civilian life it’s also important to factor in what profession that would be. Footballers are a priveledged bunch who are in the the spotlight. Imagine being the victim and seeing this bloke on tv or in papers still living his lavish lifestyle. With all the safe guarding and issues that would follow it’s just not worth it. And finally, and more importantly I personally don’t want this kind of behaviour tolerated or accepted by my club, we ballsed it up the first time, let’s not compound it further

About time this thread was deleted isn't it?
This^. Some ppl should be ashamed quite frankly

Howay man lads, football loyalties aside, if that was your daughter how would you feel about the situation? Can't believe there's still people defending him in here based on nothing but blind loyalty. If you are defending him you're either too young or socially-challenged to be a parent, or frankly you're f***ing bad at it if you'd be content for your child, at 15, to be groomed by a 30 year old. Unbelievable stuff; thankfully it's from the minority and most of you are talking sense.

Alonso ended someones life - way worse. He knowingly got in the car whilst drunk! If it was your daughter, which crime would you want her to avoid the most?
Exactly.

Nobody defending him but people saying when he’s done his time he’s free to continue his profession if some club will take him.

Who is this aimed at? I can't find a single post where people have said grooming a child is ok. Please show me the "minority" you speak of.

Quite happily just not at our club

Comparing the two cases is crazy, AJ left his home and drove somewhere to meet zn underaged girl he groomed! Alonzo did not leave his home thinking im going to kill someone.

Premedated, groomed, abused position. Why dont people get it it!
I'm aware of the circumstances. I follow Sunderland. Does this mean that killing someone is not as bad as what AJ did in your view?

Different for convicted sex offenders though, no? Surely they'll be on the register even after release? If once they've served their time, it's usually not a good idea to put them around vulnerable people, ie kids.

That is all well and good but there are some jobs that wouldn’t be the case whether football should be one of those is a moral issue

It's going to be brilliant on here when the Chronicle or Sun picks up on this thread and writes the headline, "Desperate Sunderland fans want Johnson back". I know it's not going to be true of the majority, but I'm beginning to believe that some people on here have no morals.

People are entitled to their opinion, but this is one they should have kept to themselves IMO.

But that is not the case if you are a doctor, lawyer or a teacher etc... so its not any job. He can fuck off to be honest. I can't believe anyone that followed the actual court case, and all that came out in that, could support him. He is a horrible ****.

how has her life been ruined?
I suggest you educate yourself with some of the things the girl had had to put up with.
I'll not name names but one was jailed for 16 weeks for harrassment.

A talented footballer who unfortunately for us made some horrific choices.
id have him back for his ability - he will have done his time paid his cost to society and should be allowed to continue with his career just like ordinary folk would be allowed

I wouldnt have him back nor would the club. However, the hypocrisy is that its pretty common knowledge and not disputed that the likes of David Bowie and Jimmy Page did worse than Johnson and they are idolised.
and dont forget Bill Wyman!! really got away with one he did
