of course he is. within the parameters of the law he can do what he wants. however, any club would be mental to sign him on, and his life wouldnt be worth living, every single match. home fans and away fans would torture him for the rest of time
Lee Hughes came through it and there must be others

Because once you have served your sentence I can not see where the jurisdiction is for anyone to prevent you continuing your trade.

I think the most likely outcome will be that he signs for a French side (and there have been plenty of French players who have been nipping back over to France having sex with 15 years old within the law in recent times) or he will go to China. Either way, nobody in those countries will care about it.

Who cares man. Who cares what the medical dictionary of sexual disorders classes grooming and interfering with a 15 yr old as?

What I really objected to was him saying Johnson would be welcomed in other countries where laws against child sex aren't as stringent.

You can't post that man.

It's like saying Gary Glitter was alright really because some of his activity took place in Thailand.

well sorry like but it is completely relevant. you are talking about 2 different crimes here. one of them, peadophillia is someone who is sexually attracted to f***ing babies and shit, its sick as fuck to any sane person in the entire world.

Johsnon was attracted to a girl who looked like a woman, its not the same. however, as soon as he found out she was 15 years old, he is sick in the head. and in this country, that is 1 year below the legal age and therefore its illegal, and morally wrong, he deserved punishment no doubt. but as the lad pointed out, had he done the same thing in some other countries, they wouldnt have battered an eyelid. Gary Glitter was doing shit to 10 year old kids, its different and illegal in every single country in the world.

disclaimer - i'm not defending AJ here at all, just point out the difference in what people are saying he did, and what he actually did

No club would want the press.

Plus a fan group would probably campaign to have professional athletes put on the same list as sports coaches etc. i.e jobs that ex sex-offenders can't be employed in.

Luke McCormack killed two bairns while drink driving currently playing for Plymouth

Yes but do you see that in both cases, whilst horrible crimes, neither breached the trust and responsibilities of dealing with children that being a professional footballer entails.

He will still be on the sex offenders' register, with everything that entails.

I really don't want to propagate the same old debate on here every time theres a Johnson thread so am bowing out.

Exactly Hank that’s the point I’m trying to make. Of recent times Alonso was playing for us but was convicted of driving at 70mph in a 30 mph area in which a 19 year of female passenger was killed only got nine months and has continued playing at various clubs. Definitely not saying it’s ok what he did but when he’s served his time he’s free to play football again if someone is prepared to take him.

There can be no way back for him and rightly so.
The guy is a creep, a disgrace there's no place in civilised society for his behaviour that he knew fully what he was doing. No matter how good he was.
Despite this sorry episode Safc has mostly had good moral ethics, it's a community club and will always be seen as a force for good.
No matter how much we need a player of his talent he's tarnished safc's good name enough

Dare I mention Ched Evans

Should that apply to everyone in your view?

Yes, that is my point. There should only be restrictions where the sentence dictates it. I could see the argument for preventing becoming a school teacher as there are things in place to stop those with convictions for sexual offences from working with children. But there is nothing in law to prevent him becoming a footballer again, just as there is nothing to stop him becoming a bricklayer. His imprisonment was a suspension of his liberties, not permission for the rest of society to deny him his basic right to try and make a living.

I'm absolutely amazed at some of the replies on here. It has absolutely nothing to do with me being black and white but some of, actually quite a few, posters would welcome him back? I agree his sentence was on the harsh side, nevertheless he did wrong. What about the girl and her family? Their lives will never be the same. Yes he's done his time, but for some of you who want him back knowing what he done his time for, your "support" beggars belief. I sincerely hope this doesn't happen to a member of your family.

i think you will find 99% of sunderland fans, if not more, certainly dont want him anywhere near our club.

you will probably find a minute percentage of lower league clubs (which is what we practically are) will have fans who would welcome him
