Adam Johnson Trial Verdict

We have no idea what documents they had or whether they read them.

In my view it would be wholly proper for the club to hand over all documents to Johnson's Barrister as they have stated and let the legal system deal with the investigation into this case.

The club have stated "Some documents were received relating to the case, which were immediately sent to Mr. Pownall for his attention. However, the club was not in a position to make any judgment on the outcome of the case"
Why don't they come out and deny it if they aren't hiding anything?

Even if I was inclined to believe she knew, bearing in mind she allegedly found out on 4th May, two weeks before the season ended and the trial was, at the time scheduled for August, knowing he was going to prison because she knew what he'd done, why not sack him then. Quite easy to do so, end of the season save his wages, buy someone else.
Even if they'd wanted him to play the last couple of games they could have sacked him then saying and used the excuse that between 4th May and the end of the season they'd been considering the information and taking legal advice.
I dont know the answer but I do know the trial was originally scheduled for August. I wish to God it had happened then

It doesn't add up does it janey and I wish it had taken place when it was originally meant to .

This needs clarifying by the club asap. I am seriously questioning returning if they have knowingly let somebody who necked on with a 15 year old continue to play football for us.

Absolute fuck up from start to finish.

'Durham Police said the club was told Johnson, who has been convicted of sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl, messaged and kissed the girl.'

From BBC, nor the wonder the club can't come out and deny it, they knew all along.

Are you actually paying attention to anything that is going on? Johnson and his barrister involved the club, they gave the club the police interview transcript and the 836 whatsapp messages. The senior copper had a meeting with Byrne, in which Byrne was told he had messaged and kissed her. Clearly, the police would know what they can and cannot tell various people.
Have a think as to why there might be a problem with that?

Is this some kind of fast track justice system that's being introduced? Quicker than going to court and will save a fortune

Who ever at the club give the green light to release that statement wants shot with shit, they have made the club look 100 times worse and defected from the real villain AJ.

Would have been better to say nothing than that double speak pile of shit they released, media are having a field day.

Having a law degree and being a criminal lawyer are not the same thing - the former is a generic qualification, the latter is a speciality; you wouldn't want a GP to carry out a heart transplant, yet both the GP and the heart surgeon would be qualified doctors, and it is the same with the law. QCs for example are only specialist in one aspect of law, so how we can expect Margaret Byrne (and I am not her biggest fan by any stretch of the imagination) can be expected to adjudicate on whatever information she had and determine that it constituted a sackable offence, before the matter went to court I do not know.

She did he training in criminal law and worked as a criminal lawyer for several years before she joined SAFC.

Exactly - I fear that this came down to money. Disgraceful.

That's only explanation for it. Club knew Johnson was key to survival both this season and last. Not even sure if the club will regret the decision they must have known this would come out and they'd receive massive criticism for it. They wanted survival and got it

4th May - the club were shown 800+ whatsapp messages between Johnson and the girl. Clear evidence of Johnson's grooming campaign. The club have claimed these messages were passed onto Johnson's legal team immediately and they didn't bother looking at them (and evidently Johnson's legal team looked at them, didn't say a word and filed them away without the club enquiring as to what his legal team had just seen). Total and utter horseplop I'm afraid.

Where are you getting this from?

Are you just paraphrasing what's been said regarding the single exchange in court and what the police have just stated?

If so then you are adding a lot of your own opinion there, if not then I'd like to see the original source.

Police evidence at the trial and I quote

“Myself and a colleague went to meet Margaret Byrne to discuss the offences and consider safeguarding for any other young people he may come in contact with through his work as a professional football player.”

DI Sampson went on to say that what Johnson had told police in interview was not disclosed to the club.
