He was always a swanky bastard when he was a player. Not to mention massively overrated, i cant believe he played at test level for England. His bowling was military medium unorthodox consisting slower balls, half volleys, cutters etc and his batting consisted largely of slogging.

His Brother had way more potential with bat and ball imho.

Agreed, got picked on the back of Surrey being a successful one day team, which was hardly a surprise when they had Stewart, Thorpe, Bicknell, Brown, Saqlain and others to pick from. Adam Hollioake was never a test player, and I remember Lara taking him for 36 in 2 overs in an ODI in the Windies

At the time, the England selectors had a tendency to pick solid, experienced county pro's in their ODI team who really were never going to be international class. The 99 World Cup squad included Hollioake, Alleyne, Austin, Ealham and Vince Wells!, yet people wondered how we went out in the group stage

different players same problem.......Patel, Wright, Bopara, Bresnan

You can put Wright in that bracket, and possibly even Patel but while Bopara can flatter to decieve, he's a class above the likes of who I just mentioned, and having Bresnan in that list borders on laughable, he's been England's most consistent ODI bowler in the last 6 months.

Ben Hollioake God rest his soul. Yes you are right, he was the one in the family who held all the talent. Could've been as significant as Flintoff in my eyes as an all rounder.
