Aberdeen fans - sectarian banner...

The Aberdeen away support have a large amount of worky-tickets in their ranks. Seen and heard how they go on at and outside a number of grounds.

It seems to be fans in their late teens to mid twenties, who think they're the best fans ever because they've gone to an away game, and have a divine right to behave like dicks.

That could well be said about the majority of away supports these days unfortunately

Genuine question here.

If you were in a boozer in Glasgow and a load of Celtic fans started singing "Broad Black Brimmer" or "Boys of the old Brigade" would you feel as uncomfortable as a group of Rangers fans singing "We are the Billy Boys"?

Yes. I’m also horrified at the moment with some of the away contingent and the “Up the Ra” stuff. No place in football.

We should celebrate our heritage, a club open to all and founded for the poor in Glasgow, that doesn’t discriminate on any basis, it’s something that makes us unique,

There is no place for any sectarianism or discrimination on the basis of religion in football.

It was Neil Simpson, not Neil Cooper - it was awful - I was at the game and had a good view. Neil Simpson is actually a really nice bloke.

There was always an edge to Aberdeen Rangers games before that tackle - It think Alex Ferguson saw Aberdeen beating Rangers as being a vehicle for revenge (or something).

He talks about it in his autobiography and in the documentary his son made with him after his stroke.

He was a boyhood Rangers fan who after a difficult spell with them as a player found that his choice of wife was becoming an issue with the directors at the club. He was famously asked whether he would be “marrying Cathy in chapel” and because she was catholic he found the clubs attitude to him changed, says that his only regret was that as a young man he should have had the greater confidence to respond to the directors and tell them to “F**k off” there and then.

There’s great footage after Aberdeen beat Rangers in the Scottish FA cup final and he’s furious in the interview because he wanted to beat them emphatically.

Jock Stein was also his mentor until the day he died.

He has strong feeling about them to this day.
Its poor and Aberdeen should be punished but it always makes me chuckle seeing Rangers and Celtic fans get upset about banners or songs considering the shite they come out with week in, week out!

Can you show me a single Celtic banner that contains the word kill or for that matter any verb even close to it?

Obviously it depends on who you speak with but for me I find it really puzzling and annoying that the younger old firm supporters embrace sectarianism without any geunine concern for how bad it is.If you are a Celtic fan and you drape yourself in a tricolour singing "Up the Ra" then you have no foundation to cry at the union bears draping themselves in a union jack and calling people fenian scum.

As I mentioned on the liverpool "Lizzies in a boc thread whataboutery and double standards are the staple of many modern football fans.

Just becomes a depressing race to the bottom.

My problem has been and will always be, one club calls it out and actively tries to police it. The other, by turning a blind eye effectively condones it.

If both clubs would be willing to have the same positive approach as Celtic it’d end much sooner.

Nil by Mouth are the anti-sectarian agency in Scotland and they time and again come up against stone wall silence from the orange lodges in Scotland and their default influence over a certain football club. Zero attempts to engage.

Well I'm sure the resident Ranger will say otherwise.

Do we really have to debate Scottish clubs sectarian issues and celtic/rangers every weekend on a sunderland message board?

It isn't just 'pure football', it steps over the mark on every single thread.

I agree. It's getting tedious like and does nowt but spill into hatred outside of the football.
I’d have nothing to post about!

Seriously though I’m getting fed up with it. It’s so depressing seeing the most extreme fan faction at Rangers have their views parroted on here every week, even on the days football match threads, whenever it features Celtic it’s the same tired crap as opposed to commenting on the match.
