49 years ago, STILL the greatest day of my Safc supporting "career".....and will be til the day I pass.... unbeatable

12 year old, went down in car with my beloved Dad, Uncle and two of my Dad's mates.

The whole day was just brilliant and I'm so grateful to have that memory of sharing it with Dad as it was truly an unforgettable experience.
The away end is mental. How
Many did we have !!!!!????

Though for me being at the 73 Cup Final topped this one, I can mirror a lot of the sentiments you have shared here. I've been a regular since 1965 & got a semi-final ticket via the ballot. As I was a naive young teen, my folks weren't keen on me going to Hillsbrough on my own. My Dad (a "lapsed" fan) took me down in the car & bought a ticket from a tout. I can remember Arsenal fans arriving at the ground with a look of shock on their faces at the size and noise from our following. Whilst I was on the Spion Kop, my Dad had a seat directly in liner with where Vic Halom received the ball to hit home the opening goal. He went on about that game and the atmosphere there for ages afterwards. It was great to have shared the experience of that match and the elation afterwards with my Dad.

Very similar mate. Practically the same age, drove down with my dad and uncle. Unbelievable day and will be eternally grateful to him for giving me the experience.

My Dad, Uncle and one of my Dad's mates have all passed now and the other has lived in Canada for years. Special special day full of laughter, joy, suspense and tears.
Still cannot stop welling up when video footage shows BS coming out with tears in his eyes blowing kisses to the fans after we'd been chanting his name for ten minutes after the final whistle.
Just an awesome day, and as a 12 yo , seeing so many grown men openly weeping with joy and hugging each other was incredible.
Thanks Dad x

My mates dad and uncle drove me and my friend down (twat got a ticket for the final, then went on to support Man U) Was only 13 so no pre match booze. Saw some coppers taking tickets off touts and handing them out to our lads. Got in early and more Arsenal than us. But as (I have realised later) our lads left the pubs there were more and more of our lads in there. The Arseneal fans were surrounded. One of them had a plastic bowler hat on.That went flying and they were escorted from the end. Loved seeing our lads in their end when Hughes got that second. Its f***ing shit, when you compare what we could and should have been.

Fantastic game

Forgot to confirm, as you pointed out, that we were the better team throughout the semi-final, bar a nervy last 10 minutes.

I was 17 and went down with on the train with some mates. We were in the corner in the opposite end to the kop. For me, I find it hard to choose between this and the Man City game for sheer excitement and emotion. The roar all round Hillsborough at the end was nerve-jangling. Went in the pub to wait for the train back, along with about 800 others , and the atmosphere was just magical. Everyone was on a high. Hard to explain to someone who wasn't there to witness it. Oh happy days!

I kept all my ticket stubs and newspaper clippings from the cup run in a cupboard, went to have a look at them a few years later and couldnt find them, asked me mam if she had moved them, she had lit the fire with them. An interesting conversation ensued, and when my dad got back in the house from Backshift, it moved on a stage :),I got a bollocking from everyone for swearing, my dad just said to my mam, what were you thinking

My dad got me a ticket the night before in the Stack Yard - must have cost him a few pints !!

Our end at Hillsborough was just amazing - looked even bigger than our Roker End and the noise was just brilliant throughout the game. I’ll never forget Bob Stokoe in tears when the team came out again after the match was won…. but I still think the Man City game in the 5th round was even better.
