34 Years Ago Today…

don't remember anything about the game itself but iirc it was the first semi final played there after the disaster. i remember feeling quite sad looking across to the other end.
anyone else remember them playing you'll never walk alone before kick off? i have a vague memory of it but my memory's rubbish as i always thought the lower leppings was empty for that game.

Wasn’t there a bloke on the pitch celebrating who had escaped from jail, when the police put out his picture I’m sure he contacted them and said he’d hand himself in after the final!

Yeah they did play it cos even though I was knee high I found it emotional.

Don’t remember much of the game, but remember shitting myself on the way out. I was only 13 at the time and the steps on the Kop felt much bigger and steeper than at Roker.

Felt like I was suspended in mid air in the throng of people heading out, and the 89 semi final playing heavy on my mind.

Memories of the day and cup run

Me…Byrne equaliser and Armstrong!

Cracking day at Hillsborough, but doesn't come close to 73, honestly, it doesn't.
Still the greatest day of my Safc supporting life.

God that was stressful. Not as bad as 92, but still got the heart rate up.
My main memory of that day was how much the stand was moving when we were singing / jumping etc.
Same with me. Looking down at the pitch we were at the top right of the stand. It was moving a lot.

In between the quarter and the semi final I ended up with my leg in plaster and had acquired a ticket for the kop. No way I'd have survived that on crutches so I was able to go and sit with the disabled fans pitch side which was a cracking view. There was even a fight between 2 wheelchair fans

34 yrs ago - wow.

I remember watching at my dad's who is a mag. To be fair I do remember he celebrated with me and my brother when the winning goal went in.

Id have been 8. It's mad that I can still remember it so clearly.

I got thinking about it when I saw the thread and realised it was the last ever game I went to with my Dad, who’d taken me to my first game (V Man Utd at Roker Park) in January 1981. He died earlier this year.

Remember stopping off at Boroughbridge for a pint and a meal on the way back. You lose sight of these things.
