1st Ashes Test - Brisbane

Fingers crossed. I know were in the shit. But this Aussie team is as likely to capitulate as much as we did in the 1st innings. A couple of early wickets and you never know.

At least we have some solace in the fact that we can't bat as shit as that again this series. I like the look of Carberry mind. Needs a century soon, to cement his top order position and give a confidence boost too.
We've got to take this approach tonight IMHO. Wickets must be the absolute priority, skittle them quickly (tough ask I know) and we can look to regain some form of control over the game. If we can just set wicket taking fields, we might leak a few runs along the way, but it's worth it if we're batting again by tea time. Defensive fields will just allow them to keep the scoreboard ticking over, set an unreachable target and have complete control.

Its a tough ask, but that is the way we should be playing today like.

Exactly, I'd rather see us go for it and them have an answer to it, than us go on the defensive and keep seeing balls fly to non existent slips.

If we could knock them over for another 100 or so (for example) we'll be chasing 320ish with 2 and a bit days to get it. It may sound ridiculous, but after the way wickets have tumbled so far, it's certainly not impossible. Bring the fuckers on!

I agree. I'd be happy with anything under 350-400 to chase.

The only thing that is imperative, to get some early wickets.

Haway Jimmy Laaad!!!!!!!!

Cook was figured out in 2010, apart from the last three winter tours obviously, and the home series against India and Sri Lanka of course, and of course the New Zealanders this spring..... Didn't do much against the Saffers mind, apart from that century to open the series.

And I thought the problem this summer was that he was planting his foot and getting caught leg before? So for a walking lbw and caught behind candidate, he's doing alright. Like.

Or perhaps Australia under Lehman are the first team since Pakistan to persistently attack his weakness to the angled delivery. I seem to remember Harris getting him twice caught behind and once lbw using this tactic. The bloke will not average 30this series imo

90% chance of rain today.

Yes, because once a mediocre bowling attack 'work out' the best opening bat in world cricket it makes absolute sense that the rest of the world would ignore this glaring fault for 3 years.

Could it be, perhaps, that Cook is just a bit out of form? Or is that outrageous?

People used to say the same about Gower, as he spent the 80's averaging about 10 clicks more than anyone else in the team.

Love it when someone on here says Cook has been found out. Means there is a 100 round the corner n il b that bit closer to getting me dosh off SC[DOUBLEPOST=1385157357][/DOUBLEPOST]Love it when someone on here says Cook has been found out. You can say that again ;)

Seriously though, if Cook picks the 2nd innings to remember how to bat I'd be over the bloody moon. The Aussies think they've got him sussed and for him to score a match saving/winning ton at the Gabba would be such a kick in the teeth for them.

On some of those Johnson deliveries I can't see the ball on the telly

very very quick

Remind me of the bet? I know it's to do with the amount of tons cook would end up with.

Anybody see the Gower piece about he fying incident in 91. Surprised I could still remember that clearly. Can't believe it caused the fuss it did back then.
