I'd say it's very much worth it. It's more a tapestry made of a day in WWI with a special mission in it rather than a traditional film. The plot given in the trailer really is the plot. You two go there and deliver this message. And we see what they see on the way to the destination. It's not some traditional war movie of plucky heroics against impossible odds, but an unusual day in their lives surrounded by a usual day in WWI.

The entirety of "1917," a drama set during World War I, follows a pair of young soldiers trying to deliver a message to stop an attack. It was not actually shot in one take, but rather a series of continuous, uncut shots that were then cleverly connected to give the feeling of one long take

I hope this movie inspires more ww1 films/tv. It's overshadowed by its bigger brother so I don't think people fully appreciate how awful that war truly was

Possibly with America having a much bigger involvement in WWII, there are more movies about it. Plus with the bombing raids civilians felt the war more every day than WWI.

Even tho they were late (as usual) to the party they suffered horrendously. It was to do with them wanting to command their own troops as opposed to letting the generals who had finally worked out how to fight trench warfare do it. They made the same mistakes as we did in the first 2 years of war and were cut down in masses. I'm surprised tbh that the yanks haven't made more of it and they are some brilliant stories of heroism and outrageous acts of self sacrifice.

And the realisation that film/movies are a powerful propaganda medium in politics, war and public support.
 
Missus dragged me along tonight. Wasn’t expecting much after reading some bad reviews but thought it was OK. 7/10.
Those Germans were bloody lousy shots though, loads of the fuckers couldn’t hit a man from 5 yards :lol:

My lass loved it, and when I pointed this out she gave the old ‘but’s it’s a movie’ excuse, but it ruins it a bit for me.
Man who has barely ate for a day and a half goes in to full matrix mode dodging artillery strikes, bullets and what not.

WW1 was absolutely horrific, and I feel it missed the chance to give it a bit of believability and show how bad it actually was, and not wash over it in Hollywood style.
 
Cinematically it’s excellent.
But thought whereas the scene at the start in no mans lad had my toes curled back I was that tense... I thought it peaked about half way (with the plane) then the rest was all just a bit ‘alright’

deffo worth a watch though
 
We went last night, enjoyed it. Not as good as Saving Private Ryan IMO

Went to the Odeon in Darlo now its been done up, very nice seats!
 
The fact that he’d been swimming in High Force for 30 minutes and then delivered the letter from the General in perfect nick spoilt it a bit for me. Enjoyed overall though.
Watched in 4DX at the Gate and nearly shit myself at the tripwire bit.

I`ve always felt that. There`s hardly any decent WW1 films. The story of the siege of Verdun and the capture of Forts Vaux and Douamont really should be made into a film and base it on Alistair Horne`s Price of Glory book.
