16.00 June 7th statement by KLD.

I don't think the idea is to buy players not good enough. It's to buy talented players and develop them, the jury is still out for about 90% of them, there is loads of time.

Personally I think it's exactly the right idea, albeit they have got it wrong this last season.

But say the Burstow loan worked out and he was an Archer, Cannon, Stansfield type PL loan. We could have developed Hemir, Mayenda steadily with less pressure on them. Rusyn would have been judged differently in our eyes if we weren't so desperate for a first choice forward.
You can't spend nearly your full transfer window on players that might develop. Maybe two or three that you're fairly sure on, and work with them is fine.

At the same time buy experience, or young ish players that have games in the Championship to play alongside our better players such as ClarkeBallard etc

Let's be honest Hemir, Aouchiche, Ba, Triantis, Mayenda, Rusyn, Hjelde are not good enough for us to kick on. Jury is out surely on Pemble and Mundle too?

I mean talk me through signing Hemir, having played hardly any senior football, getting the number 9 shirt and looking like he's never kicked a ball before?
I think you’re being generous. Rusyn was reportedly our sixth choice target. If we’re to kick on we can’t bring in people on loan or permanent and pray for them to come good…there has to be some known quantities
This ^^

Where was it reported that Rusyn was our 6th choice? The loan system can get you some very good players, the 3 I listed before, Amad, Simms, Carvalho at Hull, Nakamba at Luton, there are too many examples to continue.

We have a good amount of known quantities, you could probably do a full starting 11 of them. I'm not against signing more, I'd already posted I think Willock would be a good signing.

You've written off loads of players there that have barely played, and you’ve written off one who has contributed goals and assists in Ba who isn't even 21 yet! Mayenda only just turned 19 and has played less than 200 minutes.

Trai Hume took a full year to break in as a starter, Winchester and Gooch were ahead of him. Clarke and Dan Neil were on the bench for the L1 playoff final.

It's so short sighted

I was hoping that he would announce that he is selling the club to a middle eastern ruler with a dreadful human rights record.

It's not because I'll wager not of those I mentioned will play more than 50 games for SAFC nail down a first team slot.

That said can you see the difference in the young players you mentioned that have made it and contribute, and the list I mentioned?..... Signing loads of youth players from the continent in bulk just doesn't work.
There's a reason no one else does it to the extreme lengths we are taking it to.

Well Ba has already played more than 50, so that wager has lost in record time.

I could not care less where they come from, Hume is from Northern Ireland, Ekwah is from France, I liked Michut he was from France, Amad was from the Ivory Coast.

I do like having local lads in the team, I think they make good role models for the academy, but if we can sign potential from Europe, Africa or Central America why not do it?

Ekwah has been with Chelsea and West Ham since 2018, so fair to say they had a good several years in the UK system. Same as Ballard, Cirkin, Alese and in general the players that have worked.

Ba has started 29 games over two seasons in fairness to you, but has only finished 4 matches out of that. IMHO he's bang average and not up to the Championship.

None of the signings from the continent have been good enough over the last two windows, and you'll not change my opinion on that.

There were five reported before him…Friggan, VanHooijdonk, etc. They’re not going to say ‘he was our 6th choice’ are they…but clearly he’s not up to it. We have no known quantity strikers, including him…I guess he is a known quantity now…known for being not very good

Of course you do it. But you don’t make it a central part of recruitment otherwise it becomes incredibly high risk. Weve gone the wrong way on the balance with it.

And if you do go for it as a central part of recruitment, the pastoral care and integration process has to be spot on. It obviously hasn’t been and comments from Hoffmann, Bennette and Rusyn more than hint that.

Absolutely right. It can take 3-4 years for players to mature into regular first team players. Think of that lad Antoine Semenyo at Bournemouth. He's scored 10 goals in the Premier League this season, scored plenty for Bristol City before signing. But when on loan at Sunderland as a raw 18-year old he looked rubbish and would have been written off. Who knows what Hemir will be in 4 years time? Waiting tables or awaiting a big money transfer because he's grown up? Does show why we need more experience though.
