Yep, 111 years ago today, Sunderland wiped the floor with champions to be Nufc, with an awesome display of attacking firepower.
Billy Hogg and George Holley plundered hat tricks in a brilliant team performance infront of a reported 56000.
Must have been some celebrations in Sunderland that night.
This was the biggest ever away win in the top flight until a few weeks ago.
Bridgett 2 and Mordue got the others.

Was fantastic mate. I remember speaking to a couple of mags the next day who were fuming x

I think er ended it after 70 minutes or so. Effectively we 'declared' at 1-9

Noooooooo way man :evil::evil:

When mags were 6-1 up at our place with 30 to go, wor jackie was imploring his team mates NOT to step off the gas and to avenge the 9-1.
Thankfully they couldnt be arsed to listen or we actually decided to defend properly:(

we wont be doing that whilst the current clownshoes are in place

It was the only game, I missed that season, following a nasty bout of diptheria and whooping cough 😕

Sad thing is there probably wasn't, it wasn't like it is now, the same fellas cheering SAFC on to the win would have been back at SJP 2 weeks later cheering NUFC to a win against Blackburn

There's probably quite a bit of truth in that tbf.
U daft feckers ramped it up with the Gillingham escapade, but April 1970 soured things the most.
