Spot on. Mother from Penshaw...married father, a soldier. Sent somewhere different every three years until we moved back to NE when I was 12. Hence the failure to have the accent. 12 onwards...grew up in Concord.

When I first got back to the NE as a twelve year old, people would say stuff to me and I couldn't understand, so I'd say 'what'? Eventually they'd give up and shout 'How man are yee deef?' To which I would say 'what'?

It's TTD's superb football analytical brain... not the bleedin' accent! Then again, I am not from the NE so that's lost on me. 🤓

I rarely take in vids or podcasts. I'm a reader rather than a viewer (takes far less time). But I will certainly make an exception for any series either of you produce. Onward and upward.

I'm from the pit villages, but left at 16 to join the army. My own accent is still there, but both my kids have an accent that is completely neutral and nobody could identify, so understand your pain

I was born in 1949 and brought up in Fulwell, Pennywell and Gilley Law. In 1968, I left for London and since 1972, I've lived abroad, France and Switzerland. I've totally lost my Sunderland accent. People are amazed when I tell them where I'm from.
However, my twin brother left Sunderland in 1966 and has lived in Norf Landon (Arsenal country) ever since, and he hasn't lost one iota of his accent.
I suppose we all react differently to our backgrounds and developments.
