Spot on. Mother from Penshaw...married father, a soldier. Sent somewhere different every three years until we moved back to NE when I was 12. Hence the failure to have the accent. 12 onwards...grew up in Concord. In all seriousness though @10 Trenches Deep , are you originally from Washington or did you move up here? Bet you live in one of them nice apartments in Dame Margaret's
I'm from the pit villages, but left at 16 to join the army. My own accent is still there, but both my kids have an accent that is completely neutral and nobody could identify, so understand your painSpot on. Mother from Penshaw...married father, a soldier. When I first got back to the NE as a twelve year old, people would say stuff to me and I couldn't understand, so I'd say 'what'? Eventually they'd give up and shout 'How man are yee deef?' To which I would say 'what'?
I was born in 1949 and brought up in Fulwell, Pennywell and Gilley Law. In 1968, I left for London and since 1972, I've lived abroad, France and Switzerland. I've totally lost my Sunderland accent.
