10 greatest cricket commentators and summarisers

I can't bear Agnew, like someone trying to impersonate a TMS commentator but not quite getting the off topic lightheartedness.

John Arlott remains the finest voice of cricket on the radio

I couldn’t agree more, I’m sure he’d forgive my misspelling his name. It was almost as though the result of the game was irrelevant when listening as he’d almost send you to another place.

One of the greatest moments of cricket commentary if it happened was...

Cunis coming into bowl, he's neither one thing nor the other (think it might have been Arlott)

There's also supposedly a moment where an Australian commentator said...

"he's bowled the clunt"

In a state game where Boycott was boring everyone senseless

Willis
Benaud
Athers
Holding
Beefy
Gower
Hussain
Warne

All the above come to mind. Don't listen to TMS a lot but had it on in the car today and enjoyed Tuffers and Guha, who id only ever listened to on highlights and thought they were poor when it's just lots of screaming great shot every 10 seconds.

Benaud the greatest ever.

Athers the best of the modern era, Hussain is good and enjoyed Willis' bluntness. Quite like Mark Butcher but Sky's current lot aren't as good as Bumble, Holding, Gower.

Agnew is great, Tufnell probably doesn't get the credit he deserves as he's a great radio commentator and more astute than he likes to let on. Vic Marks was always good and Isa Guha is the best of the females.

Mention for Ian Smith and always liked Mark Taylor too. For all they were were very pro Australia, Chappelli and Lawry were fun, along with Greig in the Channel 9 box.

Benaud
Arlott
Johnners
Fred Trueman
Peter West
Vic Marks
Don Mosey
Gower
Atherton
Tony Cozier
Truman was a great listen, a man of his time , a blunt Yorkshireman , apparently not a nice person but still very interesting.
I’d add RGD Willis to your list.

Ian Smith is one of the best around right now. As is Ponting as an expert.

I’m not a fan of Sangakarra. I’m not sure if it’s just how he speaks naturally but he seems to slow down speaking when explaining things almost as if he’s trying to make it dramatic. Eoin Morgan does it too. I’m not sure if anyone would understand what I mean but I definitely notice it.

Yeah I am not a fan of Morgan. Tbh, there's not many new ones I do like, Broad is OK and I like Cook on TMS, but the rest are all a bit of a bore.
