You get them at Morrisons car wash.

Never use it.

Can only assume it’s to stop the brushes getting caught and snapping it off but I doubt it’s a very well engineered solution.

mine comes on automatically when i pop the car in reverse ( as most do now), slammed the brakes on a few times in the summer like through the noise it creates
on the serious side though, Its to stop the brushes/tendrils of the car wash wrapping themselves around your wiper and pulling it off.The front ones are generally protected by the lip of the bonnet
