‘Glasgow Rangers’.

I'm not sure you do as I'm saying the money isn't in the league to make to make it competitive to the level it needs to be for the likes of Celtic and Rangers to get anywhere in the Champions League, even the Europa League. The opposition only has the financial power of a League One/Two team which most know isn't great. I didn't realise the financial gap that massive in Scotland and therefore the gap of player value/quality.

Would Man City and Liverpool benefit more playing League One/Two teams every week in the league and then coming up against teams who've played against higher standard players all season in the league? I don't think they would as those games against weaker opposition would be nowt like what they're used to now in the Premier League.
Rangers have been in 2 finals reasonably recently I think? Teams from most small countries struggle massively in the Champions League.

You've engaged me more in comparing League One to Scottish Leagues in 30 minutes, than 30 years speaking to people who go to watch Scottish football. No offence, but have you ever been to a game or spent time there?

Contrary to what a lot of posters on this board think, most people up there couldn't give a shiney shit about us or our football leagues. They had no idea that Sunderland fell down the divisions and were on the way back up. They're just not interested. Just like they're not interested in Danish football, Austrian football etc.

Plenty travel down to watch us. Have done for as long as I've been going to the match (62/63).

Which is great but he lost more games than he won, hes only ever had 1 managerial role and to be Rangers manager you are more than just the bloke who tells 11 players what to do and prepares them tactically. You have to lead the entire club showing strength and character to win every week. We arent interested in getting the most passes or our XG. Its about personality and presence. Let the coaches obsess about the finer details, you're the manager of Rangers there to set standards.

We have similar requirements to Manchester United who are also currently obsessed with modernising with laptop turbo nerds drawing up graphs, waffling on about XG and what the data tells them.

Now lets revisit Danny Rohl and list all the examples of personality and presence that Rohl has displayed in his coaching career....

Another tracksuit coach who will be ducking and diving from the non negotiables at Rangers provided the data looks good.
Given there is a footballing structure there that whoever gets the job has to fit in with, you can't describe the job in those terms IMO, and will never see success unless the person taking it accepts that too. Obsessing about figureheads, their suits and shoes will not win titles. They are not recruiting a manager who runs the club, they are after a head coach, which is probably one of the main reasons Gerrard is no longer interested (along with the fact they are essentially broke). Most clubs are run like this now and they are no different.

It all sounds very mag-like to me, there's nothing particularly special that's different to managing any other club with expectations. Win games, be at least competitive with Celtic, and nothing else matters. Elevating the role and putting unnecessary pressure on whoever gets the job with all this mystique is helping nobody (except Celtic).

What a load of sanctimonious bullshit
Dinosaur mentality that has set the likes of Man United back over the last decade.

Wanting a manager in a suit over a manager who is actually good. Rohl is the best they've been linked with, if it wasn't for winning the title with them then I don't think they'd be desperate for Gerrard given he shit the bed at Villa and fucked off to Saudi for a few years.

Rohl has achieved a lot more than Gerrard did when he went to Rangers.

Who do Rangers fans realistically expect to get? Lampard isn’t joining, no way would he leave Coventry with them having a strong chance of promotion. McInnes isn’t going to leave Hearts.

It’s going to be an out of work manager.

You're thinking I'm belittling Scottish football like some do on here but you're wrong and the times I do, I'm taking the piss out of certain posters in jest. What I'm suggesting now is possibly one reason why it's not as good as some think as they can't be arsed to look further than the results/history of the 2 main teams.

I've been to low crowd games and I don't need to go to games up there to know fans can be passionate or enjoy games or that they don't give a fuck about other leagues elsewhere. That's why I've said the same about Premier League games being shite as all levels of football have good and bad games but any can be entertaining and all teams will have passionate fans.

The issue with Scotland's Premiership is that it's got the 2 'big' teams but then a huge gulf to the rest regarding finances. That's my point about them struggling a little more in Europe due to the difference in opposition they have in the league as they not playing opposition at a level that would help them. Hence my Man City and Liverpool playing League One/Two teams would probably affect them playing in Champions League.

Some think because the 2 teams have dominated the league the last 40 years (well Rangers did at one time) they should be getting to Champions League later stages etc. It's an unfair comparison as the reality is they're not at the level as many other teams in the Champions League as many are on far higher revenue/player fees/wages etc, along with the weaker opposition not helping either. The gap wasn't as big years ago but due to the money in the game it's getting bigger over time and it's showing more now.

Compensation is the issue with Lampard but I wouldn’t be surprised if he was tempted by the Ibrox job.

It’s a bigger job than Coventry plus the rest of this season is a free hit for him.

Somebody who looks the part is apparently the most important thing, they don't have to know anything about coaching or tactics. A cardboard cutout of Walter Smith perhaps.

Nail on head with the mag-like comment.

They could appoint a great manager/coach but if he's not English/Scottish/loves the Royal family then it wont appeal to a sizeable percentage of the fan base.

Stupid simple biggots.

I'll go back to my original point and keep it simple.

Piss taking or not (I've no problem with this), I think it's daft to compare any small nations league to League One.

Go and look at Portugal. They have a very small number of huge clubs, some middling clubs, then tiny clubs. This is a lot closer to Scotland, Austria, Sweden than League One, or Bundesliga 2 etc.

I never mentioned low crowds or passion. Most people in Scotland just aren't interested in your comparison, even if you are.

I'm definitely leaving it here now, cheers anyway.

Not at the moment they aren't

It’s a bigger job than Coventry. From Lampards pov, he’d have Europe plus an opportunity to win two domestic trophies this season (the league has gone though).

If he went to Rangers and did well, he has a chance of being in the mix for a good premier league job.
