Wycombe Forum

Sorry lads I was busy imbibing in a more modern inn .The lad that say Enderby is correct also Ravensworth they came together on that corner .Alas now long gone along with others in the Trimdon st area
Tbh the front of the building which is shown on your picture is actually on Carol Street, which ran from the roundabout to where Pyrex was, not sure where the official front door used to be as it possibly had them on both Ravensworth and Enderby Rd, I'm going for the latter ;)

Glyn Creaser who used to play for Wycombe in their non league days was in my class at school, he was and maybe still is their longest serving player, useless bit of trivia but I'm full of that.

Was in the hospitality yesterday(ooh get me I know) and we had a couple of Wycombe fans with us. They were genuinely gobsmacked at the sheer size of the stadium and the welcome they received. The only thing they didn't like was the way their team resorted to time wasting tactics but said that it wasn't a surprise because we were absolutely battering them towards the end. If we were gonna drop points to anybody I'm pleased it was them because they're a decent bunch both on and off the field.

You sir are obviously a millfield or Deptford lad .You are quite correct what you say ,however there wasn't a door to front elevation unless I had too many pints of best as a yungan

Moved there when I was 8 and lived about 50yrds from the Lansdowne for years, know it like the back of my hand ;)

Lived in that area for a long time Atkinson Buildings .Before we moved up in the world to Pallion but still gravitated home s lot granda used the Daisy a lot Railway ,Free Gardeners etc .,and in those days the Albion on Hylton Road

Canny turnout by them, considering they average around 4k at home it’s a great turn out to bring just over 1k away. Team did them proud, we were below our best again. I do think it’s encouraging for us that we’ve barely played well this season when you really think about yet we are second.
But, on a more cautious note, we will have to up our regular performances to do well in the Championship next season as our current level will not be good enough.

Free Gardeners, Lansdowne & Mountain Daisy three canny pubs. A few year back I recall a mobile disco thing in the Daisy called "Beat Route". Quite tickled me fancy!

Disappointed to drop points against Wycombe but discovered another example of the heart and soul of the real football in League One.

Took me a few minutes to find out why in their Forum they keep referring to their rivals OUFC as PNL (or #pnl)

Louise Taylor in The Guardian quoted there saying that 'ROSSOLUTION' is our new buzzword on wearside! what a pile of crap.
I just read that. She wants shoeing. What am idiot.

Literally the only person who said that before her report was @The Muffin Man who said it in jest. (I hope)

Went right down in my estimation after reading that article did Louise Tailor.

Thanks for the kind comments lads. Absolutely loved my weekend in the northeast, and was a bit gutted not to win in the end. I didn't feel like the equaliser was coming but Jacobson was done far too easily, and the cross somehow found its way to your striker. Good result nonetheless!

All of the Sunderland fans we spoke to were lovely welcoming people, and I would love to visit again, although I suspect it won't be happening for a long while. I thought the atmosphere was fantastic throughout - certainly one of the best I've experienced. And the stadium is the biggest we've ever played in outside of Wembley apparently.

As Portsmouth and Peterborough found out this season (and lots of other teams in previous seasons), Wycombe nearly always play well in the big games. I thought our tactics were perfect, particularly in the first half, although you could see us tiring towards the end because of the huge effort.

Good luck for the rest of the season!

Cheers Fella, same back at Yah! Good Luck!

A couple of canny comments on the first page of that thread too:

Match day thread: Sunderland

"What a great display by us, wonderful stadium and can I say I was bowled over by the locals. The Mackems are just about the most friendly and helpful folk I have had the pleasure to meet. Also in Hartlepool the day before, where a group of us stayed. Pleasantly surprised that both me and my big bag was not searched going into ground, can't remember when that happened last."

and

"It's interesting comparing the attitude of Sunderland fans (a genuinely big club) with the fans of the self-proclaimed super-massive clubs such as Oxford, Plymouth, Rovers and Luton etc.

They probably won't be happy to draw at home to Wycombe Wanderers, but reading lots of nice comments online from their fans, complimenting our performance and our fans, wishing us luck for the season and safe journeys home. Compare this to the bitching we usually get from the supporters of all those powerhouse teams in Leagues One and Two who could never quite come to terms with anything less than a 5-0 win against us.

When I lived in Portsmouth, I frequently heard Pompey fans talk about playing in Leagues One and Two as if it was some sort of insult to their status to have to play at that level, whereas I've read quite a bit from Sunderland supporters saying they're actually quite enjoying playing at this level and the adventures that it brings. I'm delighted to see them enjoying this season after sticking by their club through a rough few years.

Hope they win the league (or at least finish second behind us.......)"

Cheers fella, All genuine Fans are liked in the North East! Support your team with passion and not divine expectation (as with some) and your always made welcome in Sunderland and the SOL! We are enjoying football again after some dire times, never mind the league, we will rise as and when. when we do as long as we still enjoy our football, job is a good one. Hope you do well as well, but obviously behind us!

Think all teams away fans have been spot on so far tbh, all come in good numbers, none played up (you'd have to be canny stupid to be fair) and virtually all of them been pretty loud given their numbers.

Loving life in league 1, loving that we are being well received and that our fans are not behaving like entitled wankers......Of course we want and probably expect our stay in this division to be pretty short lived but why not make friends while we are here and enjoy the ride.

The whole experience from take over to now has been fantastic and long may it continue. I never ever want to return to the days when we have utter bellends on £40k a week stealing a living from our club while barely being arsed to chuck a glance to the away fans after yet another abject performance let alone applaud the fans efforts.

We can never allow that disconnect between fans and players ever build again, there are great examples in the top flight of clubs where the fans and players seem to have a close bond (Leicester, Burnley, Huddersfield etc).....All about recruiting the right people with the right mentality imho. It can be done with top players, Jermaine Defoe proved that but for me attitude should be right up there with ability when it comes to recruitment. Too often we have had players with bags of ability who were just complete bellends and as such were worse than useless.

In a word! "Agree" :eek::rolleyes::lol:
