is Lasith still playing 1 dayers for Sri Lanka? or has he retired from international cricket all together?

He looked perfectly fine today for Mumbai Indians..

Andy, dont jump into threads before someone has posted.

Averages mean sod all in one day cricket, its strike rates and economy rates, you dont have to take 20 wickets to win one day games

So Shaun Tait taking 1 for shit loads v India didn't matter because of who the wicket was and because he's an all out quick. Remind me who won that game again?

Averages are just as important in 1 day cricket as they are in Test cricket, is the point of the shorter game not to score runs quickly? Therefore a bowler who takes a lot of wickets for a smaller number of runs is better than one who is a constant danger but will go for loads between wickets.

Oh, and chomp.

one wicket no. but if he takes 3 wickets then thats a significant wicket haul in one day cricket

I agree with that, but averages are still important in 1 day cricket, a player could win the game with figures of 3-40 1 day, but then go 0-60 the next, which is nee good if you want to be a consistently good team. That's the problem with Malinga, on his day he can be unplayable, other days he's serving up pies.

For the record, I'm also disappointed he won't be coming, as I think players like him really improve the spectacle. It's a shame so many players are putting cricket's equivalent of 5-aside ahead of the proper game, but money talks doesn't it.

which is why I made the point of IPL becoming the pinnacle of a players career, to the detriment of test cricket.

If 20/20 hadnt taken off, I would suggest the likes of Nannes, Tait would have made a much better go of their test career

I think we sort of agree, but I hope you're referring solely to it being the pinnacle in terms of earnings. In pure cricketing terms, playing and achieving in Test cricket always has been and always will be the pinnacle of a career. It's a pity some players don't seem to see it that way.
