Beats working in a shop or call centre dunnit Marko....

if you use your squad correctly then the games wouldn't be too tough on people. County cricket is struggling without reducing their income even further the main problem is our summer is too short.

I can see a day where a couple of indoor cricket grounds are built in the country with one of the competition games be moved to there for a portion of the season.

Harmison has never wanted to do much for his money anyway and no doubt won't play in the 40over game and not used too much in the 20/20 game so I've no idea why he is complaining. The only thing he has correct is the England scenario which is a joke.

counties send their first choice bowling attack into 4 day games and rest them for 1 day stuff, which is why we are so poor at one day cricket, there is no focus on the quality of it

 Counties in try to win the league or avoid relegation shocker! Questions must be asked. Scandalous.....

 just going for me coat

Good post, however see this thread:

Some good points being made. I've made a couple.

think you have completely missed the point.

my point is there is too much cricket, counties rightly put their emphasis on avoiding relegation but then you end up with half the 2ndXI playing in 1 day cricket which is why we never do v well at it

No I agree with you, but counties like footy clubs need to prioritise what they can achieve. I find it amusing that you can go to a village game which can draw bigger crowds than some 1 day and 4 day games.

You have a match on Sky sports for example and there's 3 men in a crowd and they'll all have there little score cards and 50 pens but never actually seem to enjoy the game.

The ECB really need to look at what the game can offer to draw crowds in for county and one day games. 3 pensioners and a dog can't be good for the game as a whole.

although we do use it to blood youngsters aswell and you cant really argue with the successes we've found as a result of that

Are you being serious mate? Surely it would cost an absolute fortune to build, kit out and maintain an indoor stadium large enough to facilitate a cricket match. And I'm no groundsman but I'm guessing real grass wouldn't grow under a roof.

As for your first paragraph about our Summer being too short, I know what you mean but if necessary the cricket season could be extended by a couple of weeks without hitting problems with the weather. Two seasons ago I was down at Canterbury when Durham secured the title on the last day of the season and the game was played in glorious sunshine. There is no reason why county cricket can't be played right till the end of September.

That's only 1 week now. They could go into 1st week of October though...

Last day of County Championship last year was Sept 16th and this year it is Sept 15th so an extra 2 weeks could be achieved without slipping into October although I agree with you that the first week of October would be ok.

With the T20 competition sensibly reverting back to a 3 groups of 6 format from next season that should also free up another 2 weeks to spread games out a bit more. However, the koonts at the ECB will probably use that space to introduce another competition. ;)

Oh ok, I'm sure it was as late as 22nd or 23rd last year...

they have looked at building an indoor stadium already, the chairman at warwickshire was very keen on the idea. It wouldn't have to be a huge venue 5,000-10,000although the roof would be the major expenditure but still possible. Pitches are easily created indoors with all the new technology and lamps

To fund them you could have a winter weekend 20/20 league shown on sky and/or terrestrial tv and move the lions tour to these facilties instead of going to Aus and along with some indoor music festivals it could be a canny earner. Indoor cricket is the future they have tried it before at cardiff just needs some backing. Telstra Dome in Aus is a indoor cricket stadium.

yes they could extend it as it has been nice the last few years but two weeks won't make too much difference TBH.

I think your right about the start times I really think they need to push this through even if its just 4 or 5 county games a season to start with

It has to happen. It needs some brave counties and a bit of novel thinking by the ECB but I'm sure a last session from say 6pm to 8pm would prove popular. In the height of summer with the nights not getting dark until around 9.30pm to 10pm its surely worth a try.
