This time next week it'll be the eve of a new season. Really looking forward to it. Whats everyone's thoughts on who will do well and how Durham will do?

Wisden had a poll and Somerset seemed to be pretty much fancied for everything and it all sounded a bit like the predictions for Durham last year.

I think Durham may well win the CC and the first two away games will give us a view on whether thats fanciful or not. We're still hard to beat in the longer format.

Anyone got any thoughts on Somerset and Notts for example?

I note that once again Durham start the season with injuries though; Davies, The Colonel and Brathwaite. Looking forward too seeing Richardson behind the stumps.

He any good? Heard good things but haven't seen him play.

Is Durham's batting line up still as bad as last year? Relying on Di Venuto and Benkenstein again can only lead to trouble. The likes of Smith, Stoneman, Coetzer, Muchall etc must step up this season otherwise relegation is more of a possibility than a championship push.

Hopefully the bowling will stay strong; be interesting to see how Onions comes back from a very long term injury.

Title to be between Somerset, Hampshire and Durham. If we can get relatively injury free seasons out of Benks, DiVo, Colly, Harmy and the returning Onions, plus a full summer from Stokes before he goes onto bigger and better, then Durham's all round power to outgun the Zummers batting.

Yorks and Notts to flatter but ultimately be hamstrung by international call-ups.

Lancashire have no money, no batting and no home ground, Sussex and Worcester are shite and Warwickshire will have to do without Trott and Bell most of the year. Two of them four for relegation.

Stick this link in your favourites as well, highlights of all County Championship matches on the ECB site, usually available the same evening.

See we have injuries going into the new season - Onions, Davies, The Colonel and Brathwaite.

Davies is the John Mensah of cricket, would have been more surprised if you'd said he was fit.

What's up with Onions? Is it just that he isn't fit or has he picked up a different knock?

MBH - you going tomorrow? Any idea if this Richardson lad is any good?
Yes, I will be there for the first session and probably for the last. I'll be with young Harry so if you see me come over and say hello. :)

Dont know much about Richardson and am looking forward too seeing him myself. MCC Young Player Of The Year a couple of years ago so I'm assuming he is canny.

Back injury which doesnt sound good.

Doesn't sound good at all, is it definitely a new one or is just a report that still relate to the fracture?

Not doubting you, just clutching at straws!
Just going by what it says here:

I've heard a lot of good reports about Wood but with one to drop out it might be him.

OK, fingers crossed he's just not fit yet then.

Heard much about Harrison?
Dont know much about Harrison TBH. He's been carrying the drinks in the Uni match.

Wood looked like a composed character. Bowled really well.

how come di venuto is not in the squad?

think I might head down to the rose bowl on saturday if the weather is good.

Does Di Venuto really need to be in the squad for the University game? He'll play against Hampshire and played in the UAE last week.

I spoke to him yesterday and he was looking fit and well. He confirmed that he still has another year on his contract after this one which is good news. I cant praise the bloke highly enough. Absolutely top fella.

I asked him about tickets for the Yorkshire game on the Saturday - no problem. Sound.

I hope we get off to a good start.

Didn't need to, but would have thought it would have been worthwhile. As long as he isn't injured.

No indication that he is injured marra. The lads leave for Hampshire on Wednesday and other than Brathwaite, Davies and Onions we have a full squad to pick from.

Brathwaite did some sprinting up and down the football pitch yesterday and seemed content with his lot so I'd imagine he'll be back within a fortnight or so. He's a really nice lad as well.

Davies is out and has a pot on his foot. Everyone seems gutted for the lad. Onions is bowling 80% or so I'm told and will be back, hopefully, for the Sussex game.

The colonel is wearing a specially made boot to protect his damaged foot. Precautionary I assume.
