Wouldn't be surprised either way. He's under so much pressure back home I wouldn't blame him for packing up, but at the same time he's a stubborn little bugger who will still wat to prove them all wrong.

If Australia win the World Cup, I think he will go.

Think he will, regardless. Read somewhere (before MBH's post) that he wants to play English County Cricket. Maybe we could tempt him up here.

Hopefully Sachin will go as well. Great player, but absolutely hate the way the Indians wank themselves silly over him.

I don't see the point in Tendulkar continuing tbh, he's broken all sorts of records and has helped India to the number 1 spot in the rankings. The only thing he hasn't done is win a world cup so if they did win this one, I think he'll definitley go, and even if they don't then I can't see the point in him continuing.

I think a lot will leave the ODI scene after this tournement, the emergence of the IPL and the ridiculous international calender will see more players less inclined to have a long ODI career, as until you get to the world cup, a high percentage of the games are pointless.

I think he might have had he not got this score, but I think it'll give him the hunger to keep going.

And what a f***ing stupid way to get out

I spoke with MDV about this at the end of last season and it was apparently confirmed at last nights Members meet the players night (couldnt go as I was away with work) that Ponting had been approached by MDV on behalf of Durham CCC.

This was passed to me second hand but it didnt seem as though it had been dismissed out of hand by RP and he has stated that he wants to play in the CC again.

It sounds as though he wants to go back to Somerset and TBH I dont think that DCCC could afford him.

Great signing like if we could get him - or Cosgrove. I think it was touch and go whether Cosgrove would be returning to Glamorgan and havent heard the latest craic on what he is doing this summer.

They would make their money back easily signing Ponting however where ever he ends up will be on his terms and probably which ever teams he wants to play for.

Looks like Cosgrove is looking for a club at some point as Glamorgan have confirmed he wont be joining them except for the 20/20's.

it would be strange for him to play for us in the cc then glamorgan in the 20/20's. Suppose it could be the way in the new cricket era.

Does anyone know why Middlesex don't seem to have that much money? do they not recieve anything for Tests played at Lords?

Probably because they spent it all on Adam Gilchrist last year.

You might not but if youre a professional sportsman still at the top of his game why should you pack in ..................

Those at the top want to play there as long as they can and hes got a couple of years at least left in him

Thats why folk like Ryan Giggs keep playing on and on medals and records mean sod all personally when you cant turn out anymore

If he carries on his average might plummet though, happened to a few players.

It's not going to plummet as such, he's played too many innings for a run of bad scores to hurt his numbers too much. He needs about 500 more to make 15,000 Test runs, I suspect he'll get them and then pack in to earn his pension the IPL.

He'll have earnt so much through commercial deals in India he won't need a penny. He'll carry on getting deals too, he's a God across there, there's nobody comparable in this country.

It won't be about the money when he quits, he absolutely loves the game (not many play 20 years), I think his body will have to give up before he does. It doesn't exactly look like he's ailing at the moment (hopefully this Summer).

Might be wrong (and probably am!) but I'd imagine that it's the MCC that gets the lion's share (if not all) of the money from Lords Tests.

i could live with another ashes series of ponting baiting to be honest.

a world class player but he looks from a different era now, in the aussie team.

the last of their golden generation, who i dont think we will see the likes of again

by the way, anyone else notice the booing of ponting at the post match presentation? not just the english fans boo him

They do. Lords is nothing to do with Middlesex. They simply are tennants who pay to use the ground as its based in Middlesex

That is why they play at a lot more outgrounds than other counties such as Southgate and Uxbridge
