Yes they're joining the County League and did appeal it but there was no other options due to the complexity of the promotions and relegations of other leagues. I can fully understand why the appealed as they will have a huge amount of travelling to do.

Surely this was all taken into account before the leagues signed up to the promotion/relegation thing??

I'm sure it was but either the way it worked out couldn't have been predicted, Marsden may have been unaware or didn't think it could happen to them or they actually voted against the Pyramid system.

Not sure Marsden were totally against going into the County League just aware of the travel problems particually for midweek games.

the lad off here who plays for them will tell you more about it.

like you lads say it does involve a lot more travelling and a couple of hours more on to the day.
reason i asked is my lad plays for shildon. etherley seem to be in trouble so may end up with 1 team short after all.

Etherly have collapsed into one team so the second division get two games last. Think we (Brandon) have Marsden away second game in.

Does anyone actually beleive the pyramid system is actually helping things in NE cricket?? I'm not so sure myself as all it seems to do is cause controversy by having teams appealing to not go down due to travel costs etc.

Ah, hark back to the good old days of the 'old' Senior Leagues...

When teams like my old one were simply not good enough to survive in the senior league, hadn't been for many years, but still tried...

Got stuffed most weeks but never went down. A good season was to finish 2nd bottom. We did have one run to a cup final whilst I played up there mind. We eventually resigned, and the last senior game was truly a sad occasion.

Absolutely loved playing up there for my 1st club, even though we were truly awful, most of the time demonstrated by me! 300 miles south, 16 years and several far more competitive clubs later, I still consider them 'my' club.

Which club mate?

Not many of the lads I played with still there I think. Keeper / Groundsman, Rocky is a legend, still about I think.

Think the Berry Bros. 'run' the club these days.

They've got exactly what they deserved.

For several years there has been a huge turnaround in their senior players.

Something like 20 players have left and basically this is down to being pissed off with the ex captain, Chris Mann. Who has titled himself 'Head of Cricket Development'.

He has tried to replace them with 'promising' youngsters who just weren't up to the task in both ability and experience.

In consecutive seasons he sacked the pro - who he'd appointed himself !!

Marsden were quite happy leaving the Coast League behind in 2001 but once the reality of relegation dawned on them they suddenly preferred the Coast League ahead of the County League and tried, via the ECB, to get the decision over turned.

Following relegation it's totally understandable that individuals want to play closer to home and are now looking for other clubs, but as Marsden volunteered themselves for the pyramid (hoping for NEPL2) they have to take their medicine when things go bad.

Relegation is the culmination of years of mismanagement going back to when the firsts won through to a cup final and then gave Blaydon a 'walkover' because Marsden allegedly couldn't get a side out.

well said

im sick of hearing them on the bill quay forum complaining about being relegated.

they finished bottom so accept your relegation and get on with it.

the only way for them to get back is to win the league.

they have no chance. a long spell in the county league awaits.

The County League is a good standard easily the equal of the Coast League. The whole lot could be thrown into disarray if the Senior League second division is brought in

It's gonna cost them a fortune in umpires expenses as the closest umpire lives in Langley Park.
Wait till I have to go up there.

Not out youngun ball going down legside.
Expenses now 25 pence per mile sarge!
