Englands have still got to consider the surface in selection. If we go through we would play in Columbo next where you would expect Tredwell to be a good choice but venues such as Bangalore and one or two others he would be a poor selection.

Cruxt of the matter where I am concerned, I think some of the team selections in this tournament have shown little, if anything, thought. People bang on about poor shot selection, bowlers not varying their deliveries enough but I think the malaise starts from the top.

well done to Luke Wright got us upto a competative score and bowled well too

how many genuine all rounders are there in world cricket, yet we write a potential gem off coz the muddled selectors have shunted him round the side

typical english attitude

Despite his knock today he is not good enough to get into the team as a batsman or a bowler, so he should not be selected. We cant afford to have pits and pieces cricketers in our team.

There's perhaps some potential in there but he certainly isn't a 'potential gem'.

His bowling is nowhere near good enough and he's far too inconsistent with the bat.

Another cricketer who is decent at most things but not the level we currently need. He's essentially the cricketing version of Kieran Richardson.

he needs to take his chance now as he's in the right batting position and will be bowling 6 or 7 overs which he is capable of doing. Hope he show his worth.

He cleaned up Durham in the Pro 40 last season at the Riverside.

I'm all for giving people a chance but Wright's technique is miles off international standard, his 2 scoring shots are a thrash outside off stump and a hoik towards cow corner. Decent innings yesterday but got out hitting across the line unneccessarily. His technique would get shot to bits at test level.

He's just another bog-standard English all-round plodder. Can't really bat or bowl but can do just enough to get a place. We've been trying to do this for years, fitting in part-time cricketers in the absence of Botham or Flintoff who have been the only two all-rounders who could get in the time for their Barton or bowling alone. Keep your Ronny Irani's and Jamie Dalrymple's, simply not good enough!

I must say I've never been a big advocate of him in the past but he bowled really well yesterday. Found his length straight away and wasn't fazed by Gayle, Sammy and Russell hitting the odd 6 off him. Pleasantly surprised by his performance. He looks, and should be much better than a Yardy or a Dalrymple as unlike like he is an out and out spinner and not someone who only throws a few overs down in one day cricket.

Alastair Cook doesnt exactly have a repertoire of shots, neither does Strauss

Just needs a some polishing like Shane Watson for the Aussies

At least Cook has some opening experience. They've spent years chopping and changing the opening partnership, mostly cos of the keeper changing every couple of months. About time they just picked a top 7 and stuck with it for more than two weeks.
