Thought he was getting the surgery after the tournament? Simple solution is for him not to bowl because he's not very good at it anyway.

BBC say he is:

Kevin Pietersen has been ruled out of the rest of England's World Cup campaign because his hernia problem is more serious than first thought.

The 30-year-old opener will be replaced by Middlesex batsman Eoin Morgan.

Pietersen had hoped to delay an operation on his hernia injury until after the tournament.

But the decision was taken to fly him home on Monday after he struggled in the field during the six-run win over South Africa on Sunday.

Full report to follow.

Seems like we're trying to get Morgan in to replace him. Pietersen's injury might not turn out to be a bad thing after all.

Except we have no-one to open the innings and bat at a decent strike rate. Never been convinced by Bopara as an opener, Bell's strike rate isn't good enough and Prior is a poor ODI batsman wherever you put him.

Get in

I think someone in Washington has just spontaneously combusted.

I'd give Bopara a chance tbh. He's the only real aggressive batsman in the squad other than Morgan who we need at the end of the innings. If he fails then we'll have to go with Bell or Trott will have to open, and although they never hit over the top they have both been scoring at about a run a ball in the tournament so far, as has Strauss.

will be a loss just a shame it wasn't someone like Bell, Tredwell or Wright as Morgan coming back adds alot of quality and power hitting to the side.

Tried that before and he wasn't that great, I think his ideal position is to come in at 6 and finish the innings.

I think he's come on as a player since his last stint in the team. I'd give the lad a chance to prove he's improved his game, and if he's failed stick him back at 6.

Whether it's Bell, Bopara, Prior or Wright, they've all been tried and not been good enough. Might as well pull the name out of a hat

Or have left Davies in the squad instead of Prior.
