That's nothing to do with Bresnan scoring 90 against them, as you have said yourself they have Shakib and Mortaza, Mahamudullah is also handy in home conditions.

Either way this is neither here nor there, I've seen enough from Bresnan in a year of international cricket to suggest that while he will never be a world class quick bowler, he is more than useful to hold an end up and frustrate batsmen. Finn, Broad and Anderson can all be quite expensive if they don't hit their straps (Anderson less so recently), so someone like Bresnan could be very handy for England in years to come. He's a more than capable batsman aswell which just adds to the case for his selection.

Swann and Jimmy have often been referred to as bowlers who can hold up an end. In a 4 man attack, you actually need two or three bowlers who can take wickets as well ;)

It will all depend on conditions really, on a greentop in May Jimmy would be your attacking option and on a dustbowl at The Oval in August, you'd expect Swann to be ;)

anyway back to the game
how the f@@k have england got to this from the position they were in a couple of hours ago !

why has Bell been bought back into the ODI side....he hasnt done anything to warrant his place in this particular side.

England are reverting to type, muddled thinking and reverting to type over selection

Flower out

I agree. Trott, Bell and Prior in the top 6 does not give me much confidence at all, too similar and in 2 cases, tried and failed too often. I'd have kept Davies in there as a quick scoring opener and hopefully Collingwood will regain form as he can be a perfect number 5 in ODI cricket, for all the brigadeer block stuff he can score as quickly as anyone when needed.

we certainly haven't sorted our openers out.but bell is a class act these days.my mate has just told me on fb (who now lives over in oz now) that the aussie commentators were creaming themselves over him today and how good he has looked this summer

he has looked a million dollars in the first two ODI games, how many 50s he got....

i agree.....but how many of our batsmen have ! :-D
i'd take losing a daft one day series over winning the ashes (so emphatically too) anyday though ;)
we look like we are ready for home tbh

Can only blame the batting line up for this one. We have got carried away with players who did well in the Ashes and restored them back to the side after many previous failings at this level.

total dogshit from england in the 20/20 and one dayers so far. lethargic, lack of focus and totally out played by a fairly ordinary team...

not a hope in hell of getting any where near the world cup finals if we can't put this aussie side to bed.

we were shite there in all honesty.looks like we're ready for the plane home to me
mind you when lee and tait start like that they're a match for any team in the world

In fairness we are missing Broad, Swann and Anderson, easily our 3 best bowlers, the thing I'm more worried about however is the batting line-up, I really can't understand why Davies has been left out in favour of Prior, and Trott, Bell and Strauss are all too similar to be playing in a ODI side in the sub-continent.

Oh and when the batting side is 140 for 8 they shouldnt get 240

too many bowlers who are all too similar

need some fast ande nasty quicks to blow the tail away

come in Saj

In fairness they are missing Mike Hussey and Ricky Ponting
