Prior in for Davies in a bit of a surprising move. I'm a little disapointed by that tbh as I think Prior has had his chance in ODI's and never looked comfortable, and Davies has shown definite potential in the games he's played and scored at a good rate.

Tredwell in as the 3rd spinner, another one I'm disapointed with, he's never looked international class to me and I'd rather have taken Rashid for a bit of variety, and he's also an excellent fielder.

Shahzad gets the last seamers spot ahead of Tremlett, although I suspect if Broad isn't fit then Tremlett will be his replacement.

Luke Wright continues in the side, not surprised but he can't be far off the last chance saloon.

Andrew Strauss (Middlesex, capt), James Anderson (Lancashire), Ian Bell (Warwickshire), Tim Bresnan (Yorkshire), Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire), Paul Collingwood (Durham), Eoin Morgan (Middlesex), Kevin Pietersen (Surrey), Matt Prior (Sussex, wk), Ajmal Shahzad (Yorkshire), Graeme Swann (Nottinghamshire), James Tredwell (Kent), Jonathan Trott (Warwickshire), Luke Wright (Sussex), Michael Yardy (Sussex).

davies must look at wright and think what has he done. davies is averaging 34.85 with a hs of 87

wright is averaging 21.42 with a high score of 52

his bowling is not trusted as proven with his stats of 15 wickets at 51.26 econ rate of 5.09

his strike rate for bowling is 60.4 which equates to every 10 overs and as he never bowls ten in a single innings, means about one wicket every 3 games or so.

i predict now, if wright plays, he will be plundered and milked all over the place on the low, slow wickets of asia, if he is allowed to bowl at all

ps you can bookmark this essex boy, for ever

already done mate ;)

we will struggle against the top sides like India and Australia

I think we will, we don't have enough players who score quickly. A middle order of Bell, Collingwood and Trott will most likely not work at all.

I'm happy with the bowling options however, Tredwell apart.

Prior and Bell have been tried before, havent exactly set the world alight since in ODI and are now back in....muddled thinking

Anyhows Im looking to seeing the bowling....as according to the wankfest on here we have loads of resources at our disposla (I personally see a load of one trick ponys bar Tremlett who hasnt been picked and Englands best cricketer Broad....staggering)

essex boy, flower is one of the most astute coaches in world cricket and you offer up that comment.

prior is currently smashing aussie bowlers all over the place in the big bash.

he has just come out of the ashes in tremendous form. yes he has been dodgy in the past but this could just be his time and as with key sweater in the T20 world cup, could be the man that helps england to get away to fast starts

wright should however not be anywhere near the squad and i feel sorry for davies. they could have picked prior and davies, with prior as a batsman only, as he would offer more than wright

I agree with EB here actually. I don't think it was possible to leave out Bell on current form but going back to Prior smacks of a little bit of conservatism. He's played plenty of ODI's, many up the order and he's got three 50's I think?. I don't see why they needed to drop Davies tbh he's scoring well and at a good rate - he offer's something different which we need up at the top of the order. I think they have picked Prior purely because he's been in decent form just like Bell, but the difference is Prior will be expected to bat like Davies or Kieswetter and he's never looked likely of doing that at ODI level.

prior stats ave 25.36, top score 87

we can argue re this but how has wright "earned" a place in the squad?

Cartwright stoops to new low in his dislike of Wright. He compares him to a wicket-keeper.

I agree that it is muddled thinking and its harsh on Davies. Prior's record in ODIs is hopeless really but it is a bit of a mystery as he is more than capable. Perhaps they are thinking he is in good nick, hes just went to the 'big bash' and scored runs very quickly and has played a lot of cricket.

I think the bowlers are pretty good and Broad, Anderson and Shazhad will bowl pretty well out there I think.

Wright shouldn't be anywhere near the squad he is awful.

firepower all but gone so if we don't have the middle order playing no fear cricket we will be struggling. Due to that squad being picked Wright now has to play IMO.
