Just got both box sets and never seen either, but always wanted to watch them. Guess this is my TV viewing sorted for 2011.

The Sopranos is unreal!! You are in for a treat, never seen The West Wing although my dad says it's excellent!

I havent seen the west wing yet but have heard its great, however some of my mates who have said that also enjoy things I hate, so I have one or two reservations. I have the west wing boxset and will watch it in early 2011.

As for the Soprano's, its just absolutely superb, infact it is easily in the top 3 shows ever made in the history of television, its that good!

I got The West Wing boxset too, wanted it for a while. I'm looking forward to it, but not sure it'll hold a candle to The Wire.

The Sopranos, I can take or leave.

I haven't seen the sopranos but the west wing is fantastic! I hadn't seen it either before I got myself the boxset, but soon got addicted to watching it! there's some cracking characters in the latter series as well mate ;)

The Sopranos should have struggled because of how 'set' the plot was at the beginning. However, I still feel it's the second best TV series ever.

Aye brilliant. I personally thought the sopranos slowed down a bit in the middle but the last season made it all worthwhile.

Agreed, the last season was almost like 3 seasons rolled into 1.

Unlike the Wire which had a very average last series, compared to what had come before.

Must admit series 5 was the worst out of all the wire series' but the last episode and the ending actually more than made up for it.

I wouldn't say it was average, it just had such a mammoth task that it feel short of what it set out to do. Taking the first four, adding another element and then tying them all together was massively ambitious.

I agree, it was a big task. And I wouldn't say it was average compared with other TV shows, just average compared with the previous four series.

I think I agree with what somebody said a few posts up though; despite all that, the final episode was fantastic, and in many ways did what the entire season was meant to do on its own.
