The theme for our October competition was chosen by our August winner: Lucky Knickers

Her theme is: Youth is wasted on the Young

The winner in October will get to choose our December theme as well as having their picture entered in the Picture of the Year competition with a chance to spend a day shooting with pro photographer Mark Denton

The shot must be taken in October to qualify

Entries here

Happy shooting

yeah a tough one, been thinking since it was posted and really dont know how to meet this theme, might have to drop out on this one, we'll see.

Sounds like a theme that might lend itself best to portrait shots.
Taking the title literally I can't see how you can enter without having a child in the picture. Bit dodgy isn't when it comes to all sorts of things such as model release, parental consent etc etc..???

Not when you're the parent.;)

That said, I would be reluctant to post pictures of my kids on a public internet site. Too many nonces around.

You don't have to take a photo of a child for the contest. I've got an idea, just need to find somewhere I could actually photograph it :)

Grown ups pissing about on swings and the like crossed my mind, but I don't have the technical ability to image anything other than planets and stars.

I think it's a very imaginative topic, nice one LK.

Having said that, I have no idea about what to do.

i chose the topic becasue i have loved some of the pictures that have been posted up lately of people unknowing they are being photographed. and i love people watching.

i didn't think about the consent needed and children aspect of it, so if it's gonna be a problem i have other ideas for topics and am happy to go with another one. i had narrowed it down to 3, and this one just seemed the one i kept coming back to, as it made me intrigued as to how people would interpret (sp) it.

that being said, i am scared i am not gonna get an entry in this month as it is quite difficult

like i say i am happy to change it

i just think that is a very vast theme, and i liked the fact that this needed a little bit more thought

I don't think it's any more restrictive than "After Dark". I think you should leave it. There are plenty of ways of interpreting it that don't involve having live models.

I don't want to give away my idea so i'm going to be a bit vague here. Do you have to have permission to photograph someones property?

If you are not on private land and also outside the property then it sould be no problem.

If you are on private property or inside the grounds of the property in question taking a photograph without permission could constitute trespass.

Leaning on a wall or fence of the property to take a shot would also consitiute trespass.

However, you can only be asked to leave under trespass law and the images are your property.

Hovering around on someone's property with a telephoto for catching a window shot could constitute invasion of privacy but unless you took a pic of someone in the bathroom, I doubt a court would uphold that allegation.

To my understanding courts are reluctant to confiscate any image obtained as a result of trespass.
