Any ideas what this is?

This appears to be a commemorative football (soccer) medallion or plaque presented for the FA Cup Semi-Final between Sunderland and Norwich City, played at Hillsborough on 5 April 1992.

The inscription reads:

FA CUP SEMI FINAL
SUNDERLAND
VERSUS
NORWICH CITY
HILLSBOROUGH
5-4-92

The crests on either side are the club badges of:
  • Sunderland A.F.C.
  • Norwich City F.C.
The medallion itself shows two footballers contesting the ball and is mounted in a presentation case. Items like this were commonly produced as:
  • Match-day VIP or hospitality gifts
  • Souvenir presentations for club officials, sponsors, stewards, or media
  • Limited commemorative pieces sold or distributed around major cup matches

On the subject of that game.
With it being the first semi final at Hillsborough since the tragedy did Gerry Marsden pre match out on the centre of the pitch lead a rendition of “You’ll never walk alone” sang by both sets of fans or have I imagined that?

 I thought it was a fondue set until i noticed the strange carvings on the box..I sent an image to the British Museum and they sought the advice of an old professor (who was busy with the process of remaining relevant) in the "state the bleeding obvious" section of the library.

He hummed and harred for 0.000000012 microseconds and sent a e mail reply before my startled eyebrow had time to return to base and low and behold its a bleeding medal from the 1992 semi final of the FA cup..who would have thought?..Isn't modern science wonderful?...I hope that helps?
