They have the £50m pull, no one else would pay that for a 19 year old at this point in his career. Most people outside England don't even know Brentford is in London and anyway it isn't such a desired location in this day and age like it used to be.

'Said El Mala's proposed move to Brentford is not progressing in part due to his family’s request that the Premier League club also sign his brother.

Malek El Mala also plays for FC Koln in Germany as a striker, but Brentford’s interest is in the 19-year-old winger Said, who has had an excellent season in the Bundesliga.

As a result, nothing has been formally agreed between the clubs nor with the player, contrary to reports in Germany, although a fee for Said is not expected to be an issue, given a figure of around £39m (€45m) has been discussed at length.

Although El Mala is believed to be open to signing for Brentford, there is also believed to be uncertainty about whether 21-year-old Malek would qualify for a work permit.

Brighton have also shown interest in El Mala and there are believed to be other clubs too, but the complications around the family, who represent both players, mean both currently look unlikely to move to the Premier League.'

It's the Deloitte money league that Brentford are 30th but that's just the revenue of a club I think. They got 30th with £173m (€206m) in 2024/25.

This is the estimated prize money for this season and we'll be breaking top 30 this season, above Brentford, I reckon come early 2027 when the next money league is out. Note how each league position is now an extra £3.76m (was £2.7m before) so that win on the last day climbing the 3 places into 7th was worth an extra £11m alone in the kitty! We got a total £52.6m merit payment (both UK & International) which compared to the mags in 12th who got £33.8m is a canny difference. That near £19m is probably our match day revenue alone this season or a good chunk of it.

Having one of those days where I wish I googled more. So close to being right.

It really is at a point where being in the Premier League is what counts, as it is where all the prestige and, more importantly, money is.

Geographical location within the UK is becoming less important, as there are a lot of players in the world, and very few teams that can compete in terms of wages.

...as long as the tv money keeps rolling in.
