Our loveable traveller friends at Appleby this year.

Has anyone from outside the travelling community on here been just to have a butchas at what goes on ?
Let’s not forget the amount of towns and villages they have trashed on their way up there. Couple of caravans perched precariously on a the bend into Staindrop at the weekend. A couple of years ago they used still saws to remove gate padlocks and invaded the oak leaf sports field at Aycliffe en masse. The field was shut for weeks. Council workers removing both animal and human excrement from the football pitches. In fact the whole complex, bar, sports courts the lot had to shit down until the absolute rabble decided to move on .

Honest law abiding travellers rolled into the car park of our local farm shop a few years ago and set up camp. Told the owner it will cost you about £30k and six weeks to get a court order to move us out. Pay us £10k and we'll move on in a couple of days. He had no choice but to pay up as he couldn't open the shop whilst they were occupying the car park and couldn't afford the six week loss of income on top of court fees. Height restriction barriers now up on the car park.

The traditional travellers might not be too bad but it's all the wannabe young pikeys from places like Coundon, Bishop and West who probably cause most of the bother.
I can supply nails if you need anything nailing down

Extortion
That’s all it is

Few years ago when I worked at Northern Powergrid, the rapid response had been called out to a report of a demolished building where a live cut-out was sticking out of the ground, glowing orange and smoking. It mustn't have been disconnected when whatever building was knocked down. Anyway, when the lads turned up, there was a whole site wired up to it. They got threatened, got back in the van and left. Police wouldn't accompany us to disconnect it, so we had to wait until they moved on.

I've got loads of stories like this. Draining an on-load EHV transformer was another, by drilling a hole in the bottom so the oil pissed out, waiting until the engineers turned up to switch it out, then taking a Stihl saw to it to nick the copper was another one. Possessing the knowledge of how to do that would probably help them get a decent career in the industry. Unfortunately they'd rather steal a quid than work for a tenner.

Was there camping in the build up to the build up to the build up (approximately) once. We won't have realised it starts earlier than planned but there was only a few participants about who were canny

No bother at all (😂).
Gorgeous place. On the list of would like to go back to

Went down to walk High Cup Nick a few years back not realising it was Appleby weekend. Took ages getting out, horses and carriages everywhere and place full of litter. Police there just watching them be messy , disrespectful bastards

What do the proper ones as you call them actually do to fund their lifestyles?

Offer to remove the moss from your roof for £300 cash.
Fook off.

Scumbags.
Farmers around here always have to be vigilant.

Bought some land for development years ago , paid a couple grand for those road dividing concrete blocks to be delivered and installed as a barrier until work was completed.

Thought of it as insurance against the example above.

I used to live near Appleby and this does not surprise me at all. Vermin who contribute fuck all to society. At best they are a nuisance, at worst they make ordinary people's lives hell.
