Keep seeing all of these ex-pros saying Liverpool have been shit last season, but none of them have had to go through that.
I can't imagine what that must have been like.

Salah went right down in my estimation as well for throwing Slot under the bus when he knew he was leaving.
Slot should have been given another season

Exactly. Was talking to my Liverpool supporting HR Director yesterday and said that while obviously a very sensitive and tragic subject, the detrimental impact it would have on the team was, in my opinion, not being offered up enough as a key reason to the under-performance this season.

I think Slot was out of his depth and lucky to last as long. He won the league with Klopp’s team. The Jota tragedy must have had a massive effect on his players and hopefully players, like Konate, speaking out might encourage others to seek help (if there aren’t already).
 
you could tell at times this year he was struggling mentally, and I would find myself really rooting for him to have solid individual performances

hope he has a great rest of his career at Madrid and wins some trophies there

When they won their first five games many Liverpool fans were saying they'd piss the league.

I don’t think you can do that to be honest out of respect to Jota’s family. It wouldn’t be right, despite the fact it clearly had an impact. It would have to have an impact.

And if that was the primary reason for Slot’s failure he’d still be in post. As significant as it was, the real reason Slot isn’t there any more is because he wasn’t quite good enough.

Yet one well known poster ( in the thread re Foden ) has castigated Sterling for being mentally fragile and allegedly ( totally erroneous) a disruptive influence
It’s a horrible thing regardless of your wealth etc

No offence, but I never understand it when people say it was Klopp’s team. Klopp last won the league with them since 19/20, Slot still had to create tactics and pick the squad. It’s like saying Ranieri won the league for Leicester with Nigel Pearson’s team.

I do agree with the rest of your comment though.

This. Truth be told they'd started to look very ordinary before the end of last season, long before the Jota tragedy.

Everyone keeps saying he won it with Klopps team, but Klopp didn't win it with his team, so not sure how that works.

What I meant was he won the league with the squad he inherited. He didn’t make any major changes, or major purchases. He then, having won the league, made wholesale changes. Spent £400m and made them worse. Well, to be accurate, markedly worse. It was clear, early in the season, that they were struggling defensively. A top class manager / tactician, sees that and addresses it. Slot didn’t because he wouldn’t or, more likely, couldn’t as he is not a top class manager / tactician. Liverpool, as one of Europes premier clubs, should not be managed by a mid-level operator. I see him, in the same light as the other Dutch charlatan who somehow managed to get the Man United job.
