Well done FIFA

If people are prepared to pay the prices and watch the games then nothing will change.

Qatar has a terrible human rights record and thousands were estimated to have died on related building projects. To put that into context, zero workers died in preparation for London 2012 and less than 10 for the Olympics in China.

People moaned about Qatar but it had the highest viewing figures ever for a WC and highest revenues ever for Fifa.

And BBC Match of the Day presenters were not prepared to work when Gary Linekar was stood down but more than happy to go and cover Qatar. Strange moral principles.

Nothing to do with Prince William , he tried to get 2018 but the corrupt bids from Russia and Qatar had long been pre-approved. A blind man could've seen we should've got 2018 and Australia should've had 2022.
Then he's as much use as an elastic lavvy chain if he can't use his position to achieve anything.

And I also include that in a wider sense of their 'value' for money, but thats a discussion for another section of the forum.

...but Trump told us it will be the bestest and biggest soccer tournament ever though :(
nah it can't be, cos that other paragon of virtue, Richard keys, insists the Qatar one was, and will never be beaten. He even embellishes further by saying, he's not involved in the presenting of this year's World Cup on bein sports as a protest against them not giving it to Qatar again, where it 100% definitely should've just been held again.
Once you had the combination of the USA, WC, Gianni Infantio and Donald J Trump involved in one Tournament there was only going to be one outcome. Reap what you sow.

I, for one will be WC free this summer, I've no interest at all.
tempted to go down this route myself. Depends if I can hold my nerve and avoid it when everyone else is banging on about it.

You’re way off about William. The UK bid was an excellent one. A lot of hard work went into it from Beckham and William. Unfortunately the UK didn’t stand a chance dealing with FIFA and corruption via Qatar and Russia
There wasn’t really though was there, all they did was to be the public face.

Neither one is intelligent enough to do much beyond foto ops and "offering support". Plus they'll have enjoyed loads of free junkets and excellent PR.

Agree about corruption though.

They are keeping the prices high so american m/billionaire class can get them for nowt as an "investment/growth stimulus", give them away to rich m/billionaire mates as business expenses as well as claim the whole lot back as tax deductions. they'll be offloading the rest for cheap later. Nee fucker is paying 74k to watch scotland.

I hadn't thought about the % of matches being played in each country. From a quick search it seems like 13 each for Mexico and Canada and then 78 for USA.

Would corroborate the Mexico City resident's point that they are there for window dressing to support a US world cup
There's enough stadiums in Canada to host it. Montreal, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary could host games. Instead it's only Toronto and Vancouver. And only 3 Mexican cities.

i was thinking from a carbon footprint, environmental perspective, it would be cheapest place to host the WC and the least amount of work needed to be done. could probably host it tomorrow.

theres 44 clubs in the premier league and championship with top notch training facilities too.

the money that is saved on building new stadia and train stations and the likes could be spent on reducing ticket prices
Yeah but the people who run FIFA think differently to us don't they ?

They block booked loads of hotels (in collusion with the hotel chains) to drive the prices up prior to the fixture releases and have now released loads of the rooms, so people who booked early are seeing rooms going for up to 5 times less now.

Last "proper" feeling world cup was Brazil. Russia and Qatar tainted for obvious reasons, shadows all owa this one.

2030 split between 6 countries so there won't be that carnival atmosphere because each country will only get a small taste.

Then Saudi 2034.

Would hope a lot of people also had cancellable bookings and can now take advantage of the more reasonable and realistic prices. Although I suspect that option may have been heavily restricted.

Even if Sunderland got to the champions league final, I wouldn’t pay over £500 for a ticket. England fans heading over there to watch them play having to make significant financial sacrifices just seems incredibly daft to me.
