University student stabbed

We’re a highly developed western nation and have been leading from the front for hundreds of years. We are now thoroughly in decline and in such a short period of time that many people can clearly see it.

Healthcare = poor
Education = poor
Standard of living = seriously on the wane and already shit for millions of people
Income = stagnant and considering there’s a well documented ‘cost of living crisis’, poor
Social cohesion = dogshit
Infrastructure = dogshit
Development = poor
Crime and punishment = dogshit

If we were a school report card, the teacher would be recommending we were put into special measures and the parent had us ‘tested’.

We’re f***ing laughing stock.
Nonsense.

Travel and read something other than Facebook.

😂😂😂😂

This idea that police are actively told not to believe white people or white people can’t be stabbed is bizarre. Given how many police officers are trained do you not think this would have come out by now?

Also, “but we have to check” tells me (as someone who has investigated serious incidents in a public body), that someone was following the training (not the made up training you and Hannah think happens) and for whatever reasons the officer in charge didn’t follow, listen, hear, who knows.

outright denying that we now live in a world that racism trumps all

'i dont think you have mate' is superb policing

what transpired here is a result of years worth of conditioning, negative conditioning, now paying diviends.

I knew when this thread got taken over by the politics forum nerks they'd be screaming at anybody who thought the police were totally wrong in this. In their attempts to deflect from what has happened. The thread is fucked now it's another argument / insult special like every thread on that forum.

Where have you travelled recently that is worse?

I've been to Slovakia, Poland, Spain and Portugal over the last 6 months and all have a better quality of life than here.
How long did you spend in each country? Which areas in each country did you visit?

Surely it all depends on where you go in those countries? I've been to a fair few places in the last 10 years that once you land and get to the your hotel in a major city looks great but venture out of the city and its like travelling back 50/60 years. I've (thankfully) never had to use medical services in those countries but talking to locals they have plenty of complaints about being forgotten or the cost of everything. I don't know you so you might fly to Slovakia and visit Poprad and not Bratislava but most would think an American is a fool is they judge the UK from their visit to London and the shires. Also going off the Quality of Life index only Spain is ranked higher than us, I'm not saying we are perfect or moving to a better place but as you live here (I suspect) then you will see the bad things more than when you're on holiday and you are already in a better mood and see more positives.

I get why his argument puts people’s backs up. Nobody wants to hear their country is declining, especially those of us who are stuck here, either because of family commitments or because we don’t have the skills to work abroad.

We have invested in this country and so we develop a subconscious bias to shut out criticism that might erode the value of that investment, because otherwise we’d have to deal with some complex, negative feelings.

I’d happily entertain the thought of working abroad but I doubt I’d ever get the opportunity and so like many, I am “stuck” here too.

The UK is a declining power and is rapidly becoming an absolute shithole. Two decades of austerity, unchecked capitalism, broken communities, a dilapidated public realm and a failing economy are a toxic combination and yes that does describe the UK.

Do we have it better than most of the world? Yes we do because most of the world is an even bigger shithole than the UK, but by western, modern standards the UK is a poor country on the slide and I see absolutely no signs of anything that will improve it.

Malaga - 7 days, Air BnB wasn't in the centre so walked around one of the rougher areas. Wasn't bad at all compared to the rough parts of our major cities.

Krakow - 7 days, travelled up to Warsaw and into Katowice. I know all 3 cities well and all are way better than our major cities.

Porto - 4 days. Been loads, area around Campanha is a bit sketchy but nothing compared to the likes of Brum and Manc.

Bratislava - Stayed in the Nivy district, stunning. Ran up to the rougher parts, apart from a bit graffiti it's way better than our equivalent.

I go all over in Poland and their like for like cities vs ours, even in the rougher parts are worlds apart.

Going back just 10 years it was never like that.

Did you try to live as local? Trying to get a job, use public services, buy/rent a property?

Unless you did how can you compare people's lives in these countries to those in the UK.

He who travels far will often see things Far removed from what he believed was Truth.
Weird how politicians are rightly condemning this but were happy to “share the anger” at George Floyd and didn’t condemn those riots. Riots for me but not for thee.

Loads of Poles are going back so I expect to see their QLI to overtake ours in the next few years.

I'm talking major cities here, not countryside abodes compared to their farmlands.
