Points Needed for Last 16 Spot in Europa League

To win the FA Cup you need to beat a Man City along the way.

To win the Europa League you need to be consistent against Everton.

We have a chance to go deep into the competition, but it doesnt matter too much, its a free hit, some brilliant evenings away, the home games....its absolutely brilliant and means the monkey is off our back. We have brought European football to The Stadium of Light, to Sunderland. Absolutely brilliant.
 

the first thing we have to do is enjoy it...

the bookies seem to think europe will be a major distraction for us from the bread and butter of the league. Our first priority, I assume, is staying in the prem again. Second will be europe and third a decent cup run.
But let's enjoy it, not too much pressure. I think we will add 5 or 6 signings and make us competitive whilst also managing the Thursday / Sunday schedule.
we need 2 players for every position, and I would think some rotation to rest players, get others match fit etc.

I want a euro weekend away to a not so dangerous place.... that's gonna be amazing for our fans.

No, I get that. I just think there won't be any easy games in the Europa League.

We will be viewed by others in the comp as minnows. I'm hoping teams will underestimate us. The Premier League did.

There absolutely is some easy games in the Europa league. Just go look at pot 4. Sorry if you think my expectations are unrealistic, but I don’t think 10-12 points from the 4 lesser games is unrealistic at all personally

I don't think its unrealistic mate. I do think we can qualify from the group stage.

I just don't like the assumption we're going to roll over teams because of who they are or what leagues they play in.

I hope we do though.
 
I think the teams we put out will be very much based on who we have the following weekend, plus our EPL league form.
Why it's vital we get off to a good start in both
Will also allow our fringe players to get some all important competitive games earlier in the season
It's actually a win/win when you look at it that way

I think 11 points allows us to qualify, 9 or 10 might do it, and I think if we don’t get at least 10 it’s a failure, some very poor teams have went through since the league method was established

To be fair, the projected teams in pot 2 aren't that great. I'd be confident of beating all 9 teams at home, with maybe OM and Rennes possible problems away from home.

Pot 1 have teams that have the capacity to maybe beat us at home such as Milan, Benfica, Leverkusen and Juventus (though I'd still be confident of beating any of those 4), whilst away those four would be very tricky, as would R.Sociedad.
Fenerbache, Rangers, Az Alkmaar and Olympiakos not so much.

I don’t think it makes a difference what pot we are in. We play 2 from each pot regardless.
 
Statistically in the last
5 years I think only Leicester out of the prem sides failed to make it through the groups. That was the old format though and they ended up in the conference league. Scottish sides are patchy mind - but I think going on history of prem league clubs any price that puts us above 1.5 odds (75 percent) is a definite value bet!
 
We’ll be drawn against a team from pot 1-4 at home and another team from pot 1-4 away. With pot 1 having the best teams and pot 4 the worst. According to Wikipedia we are likely to be in pot 3.

Win our 2 home games against pot 3&4, and we only need another win or 3 draws to probably make the playoff round.

Achievable with the current squad but hopefully we recruit well again in the summer.

Oh yea absolutely, even pot 1 we've got nothing to fear. Just looking at the next round and needing 10 points which is why I focused on 3/4 only.
